Best Limited or Cameo Role. The Men

It's time for the final two categories in this year's Film Bitch Awards, the Limited or Cameo roles. Which is to say the actors who have only two scenes or less or who are continually backgrounded but for like one spotlight scene. It's an inexact science for sure and the line becomes blurry sometimes with supporting. [Breaking news: a former nominee in these limited/cameo categories whose star is rising will be guest blogging next month for a special day! More on that soon.]

This may sound silly to more casual readers but I agonize over these categories nearly as much as their Oscar correlatives. In fact the entire reason that I still haven't posted the women -- I had planned to post both at once naturally -- is that I haven't narrowed it down to 5 yet. I'm stuck at 8 and don't want to lose any of them.

So first up, the men...

Though Wild and Selma (nominee Henry G. Sanders as "Cager Lee" pictured above), offered plentiful options, and Two Days One Night was undeniable (kudos Timur Magomedgadzhie, left) the possibilities actually weren't obviously abundant. Perhaps this is because men dominate movies so thoroughly that the very small parts tend to be played by women and maybe there's a slight possibility that this actressexual doesn't notice the men quite as much who fill out the frame in group scenes. But let's not distract ourselves from the business at hand:  Here's the nominee and finalist lists.

Love this category-personally I'd need Russell Tovey, who was heartbreaking, sexy, and a fascinating little side moment in Pride, but gotta love Timur-that was a great scene.

Timur moved me to tears. Also loved Tovey in Pride and Stephen Kunken as the doctor in Still Alice. Please consider the granny obsessed with lesbians and veggies for the female category.

I *still* haven't seen Two Days, One Night (for shame), but I can't imagine anyone will trump Adam Pearson in my mind. His driving scene with ScarJo in Under the Skin had my eyes glued to the screen. Absolutely riveting, quiet, minimalist work. Bravo.

YES. These are SUCH good choices. Timur in 2D1N, the deformed man, and the father in Selma all broke my heart in their scenes. And the dude that played Little Richard was pretty awesome haha

Right there with you on Pasqualino and Pearson. Can't wait to finally get a chance to see Two Days One Night.

Great selection! And all the more impressive when one considers how hard it is to come up with good examples worthy of mention. The only example that I could come up with is Joshua McGuire, who plays John Ruskin in Mr Turner (yes, the obnoxious rich critic in that hilarious scene where they go on and on talking about gooseberries).

There is something about Martin Short in Inherent Vice...

I'm disapointed you don't have GBH in best casting. Easily some of the most inspired and creative casting of any film of the year.

The script of "Deux jours, une nuit" ruined all the credibility the movie was having until that point when Timur Magomedgadzhie appears (not only that, but it didn't help in the least that his performance is completely non-believable). Henry G Sanders better win this.

Also, I'd replace "We've actually become dear friends" with "To fucking Lutz?" for best line reading.

I like all of your choices, especially the father in "Selma" who took the loss of his son with such dignity and strength.
Thumbs up to your choice of W. Earl Brown (Wild), he played the part of Frank - he helped Reese lighten her knapsack. Anyone who has ever been hiking can relate to that scene. loved that scene.

Your Selma nominee is great. I had tears on my cheeks during that hospital scene in the theater and I'm not an emotional guy at all.

Henry G. Sanders (Cager Lee) is an inspired choice. I wish he had more heat in the actual Supporting Actor race. Same with Robert Downey Jr. in "Chef".

What a great line in Best actor in a limited or cameo role. Adam Pearson, Timur Magomedgadzhie and especially Henry G Sanders were rawishing.
But are you sure Jamie Bell were limited in "Nymphomaniac"? (I would rather said - supporting).

I still haven't seen TWO DAYS ONE NIGHT, but your other four choices are pretty damn great. Kudos!

Sanders is fantastic in Selma. Makes my Top Five Supporting of the 2014 even with the limited screen time. Nice to see him on this list getting some recognition.

Great slate but I especially love you for including Timur Magomedgadzhie - for me his scene was the moment when Two Days One Night went from the usual effortlessly galvanising Dardennes joint to something sublime and soul stirring and okay I just cried like a girl for pretty much the next hour.

Totally agree with Timur Magomedgadzhie, he definitely left an impression in one of the most moving moments of the film.

I also understand your huge dilemma in the correlative female category. Just 'Gone Girl' has two incredible options for this category: Missi Pyle and Sela Ward (both are amazing), and there are so many worthy actresses. Lisa Kudrow in 'Neighbors', Emily VanCamp in 'Captain America', Juliette Binoche in 'Godzilla', and the most beautiful cameo of the year: Uma Thurman in 'Nymphomaniac: Vol I'. So, I understand the problem of narrowing the list.
