"While it doesn't seem groundbreaking, I know I will watch it eventually because of the four legends in the cast." - Rebecca

"Adored both Bergen and Keaton (and Garcia!), liked Fonda and unfortunately, thought Steenburgen kind of drew the short straw here. Overall, had a ball!" - Andrew

Beauty vs Beast: Vamp Thru The Heart

It's Monday which means it's time for this week's "Beauty vs Beast" - Jason from MNPP here again to talk us in. Did you know that tomorrow is the 18th anniversary of Joss Whedon's television show Buffy the Vampire Slayer's premiere on the WB? I'd say Buffy's old enough to graduate from High School but we all know what happened the first time around (SNAKES) so let's not. Coincidentally over the weekend Buffy star Sarah Michelle Gellar was asked what she thought about revisiting the character, what with all these series (The X-Files, Twin Peaks) of yore getting brought back - she doesn't seem terribly keen on the idea, sadly. Anyway I don't know if anybody noticed but Joss is kind of busy right now.

But we can look back! So look back we shall. I've already used "Buffy vs Faith" for this series before so let's turn our eyes unto the main menfolk of the show - yup, I speak of Buffy's undead amours Angel (David Boreanez) and Spike (James Marsters). Put on your shipper hats and go!

Whose team are you on?
Team Spike0%
Team Angel0%

As usual you've got just one week to vote, so dust off your pointy things and prepare to make some hard choices.

PREVIOUSLY Last week we were All About Eve... actually make that all about Margo, since it was Bette Davis who took the wheel and drove right over Anne Baxter (talk about a bumpy ride) taking a whopping 86% of the vote. Bette will not be denied. Said Akash:

"All About Eve is an ensemble that ends up feeling like a one woman show. THAT'S how powerful Bette Davis is is in every gesture, quip and sashay. One of the greatest performances in American film history and it's unbelievable that one of her Oscars wasn't for this iconic role."

Angel: The way Boreanaz is aging, I'm beginning to believe he is a vampire.

Whoa suddenly I'm in grade school/high school again with everyone debating if they were Team Angel or Team Spike. I was always Team Buffy Doesn't Need a Damn Man so I'll be abstaining.

Ryan -- that's a good team. But Buffy sure wasn't on it!

Angel always bored me. It took me a while to warm to Spike, but once I did, man. Don't pretend you didn't imagine yourself with bleached hair and a thick british accent every once in a while.

I block the fact that he tried to rape Buffy from my memory. ;(

Hmmm - I'd find Team Andrew vs. Team Jonathan a harder call. Between these two, Spike all the way - "No you don't, but thanks for saying it."

Philip H - I've got a thick British accent, but being blonde doesn't suit me!

I'm Team Angel. What can I say, I like 'em pretty, and Spike doesn't do it for me. I'd also take Xander over Spike.

RobMiles - Xander over Spike???????? I would take any character over Xander... he was the absolute worst. lol. I hope youre just talking about looks...which I still don't agree with, but is much more understandable :p

Buzzfeed said it best:
"When he’s a straight-up villain, he’s fabulous. When he’s a technologically neutered pest, he’s fabulous. When he’s a lovesick sex toy for Buffy, he’s fabulous (and scorchingly hot). Puppet of the First driven mad by his new soul? Fabulous. Centered champion who gives up his life to seal the Hellmouth? Fabulous, even if the WB spoiled the weight of Spike’s sacrifice by announcing he was joining Angel full time for its fifth season — before “Chosen” aired on UPN. But Spike’s time on Angel — first as a ghost, then as a seeming rival for Angel’s place as the Shanshu champion, and finally, as Angel’s happy partner in bringing down Wolfram & Hart — is, you guessed it, utterly fabulous."

PS I would pick Angelus over Angel. So Spike all the way.

I preferred Buffy with Angel. Her relationship with Spike was too unhealthy. But Spike was a very fun character when he wasn't with Buffy.

Philip H. - I do think Xander has a nice face, and he looks great in a soldier's uniform. But I also love his loyalty to his friends.

March 9, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterRobMiles

I'm with you, Philip H. Xander is the worst. Classic entitled white guy. And he treated both of his major girlfriends on the show (Cordelia and Anya) quite shabbily. Not here for him at all.

I voted Spike. Not being able have sex with Angel would be incredibly difficult. Sex isn't everything, but it's certainly not nothing either. Especially when your partner looks like Angel.

That should have read "Classic entitled NICE guy." Nice. Not white. Honest. I'm not trying to start mess. Entitled NICE guy. Yikes.

I agree. Xander was just so annoying. He was useless and instead of finding a way to be useful he just whined and acted as the victim for not having powers like those around him, and then on top of that, like you said, he just hurt everyone. Willow, Cordelia, Anya. The times I liked Xander compared to the times I wanted to hurt him were slim to none, honestly.

Judging purely on superficial attractiveness, Spike all the way.

I'll stand up for the entitled NICE guy Xander. As someone else mentioned, his loyalty to Buffy and Willow is his superpower. And yes, he was quite horrible to Anya and Cordelia, but he saved the freaking world by going a good friend! And his "that's my girl, always doing the stupid thing": totally heartbreaking.

I might be an entitled NICE guy too though.

March 10, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterJS

Spike still takes every and all cakes.

March 10, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterJS

I've actually been rewatching Angel recently and while the show is kind of terrible... I like that he has a sense of humor as opposed to when he was on Buffy.

Also... Team Cordelia
