Ask Nathaniel
Our new banner is in honor of last week's "question of the week" from Fadhil. He wanted actors at the movies or people eating food. I figured it was harder to convey actors at the movies in tiny banner photos. So food. Sustenance. Deliciousness it is.
What's your question this week? I'll pick a handful to answer, maybe more. Food questions welcome.

Love the new banner! Great choice. I especially love Angelina and the Apple.
Best food porn movie? I remember watching the 100 Foot Journey and it was just painfully unfair how little food they showed in that movie. Meanwhile Chef and Simply Irresistible ++++
Fave shower scenes ever.
After 'A Year with Kate' you did 'Seasons of Bette' which I'm not sure why was discontinued (</3) Have you thought doing another serie about a classic actress and her films? If so, PLEASE tell me it will be about Barbara Stanwyck! And don't límite yourself with oscar nominated roles.
Btw, how's Anne Marie's coming book?
Do you have a favourite Alan Rickman line?
ie: "By Grabthar's Hammer..... What a savings!" (Galaxy Quest)
"Where are MY detonators?" (Die Hard)
I just finished re-watching "Galaxy Quest", which makes me want to ask - is there a film parody you would like to see that hasn't been made? ie: parody of Godfather films, or...
If you could pick, which British actress should be knighted next?
Or, to make it less of no-brainer (as "Dame Emma Thompson" sounds so obviously right, I actually had to look her up to make sure she isn't a DBE yet) - If you could pick, which two British actresses should be knighted next?
I just read that Inside out will have its world premiere in Cannes. That made me wonder: which performer or specific performance do you think excels at enacting each of the emotions (joy, fear, disgust, anger and sadness) featured in the movie?
PS: Bonus points if you choose someone other than Julianne Moore (reminder: Oscar winner, now! :P) for sadness, since we know she plays depressed like no one else
Movie Food Porn?
The best is the eating scene in Tom Jones. Tom and Mrs Waters have much better sex than any shade of grey.
What are the most tense/funny/interesting/scary/uncomfortable table scenes in movies?
Do you know of any bars in NYC that have fun trivia nights, specifically movie trivia nights? Or Oscar trivia nights would be even better. I assume those kinds of nights would be limited to the Oscar season.
Top 5 "Scary City" movies? Anything from The Warriors to Adventures in Babysitting.
Which movie do you think "gets" you the most? (as in, it understands you essence)
Is it bad that when I think of movies and food American Pie came to mind first? Can you just imagine the banner for that?
Anyway, real question: Nat, you have often said that Best Supporting Actor is your least excitable category. But who do you think are the top 5 winners? Which ones get you excited the most?
MrW - amazing question, though Nathaniel must discount those who were awarded and rejected the 'Damehood' - Vanessa Redgrave and Glenda Jackson spring to mind.
My predictions (not necessarily votes) are -
Julie Walters
Imelda Staunton
Joanna Lumley
That was three. I cheated.
I need a wall art for my dinning room/area. I want it to be movie themed. It can be either a single shot from a movie or a movie poster. I need some suggestions.
Nathaniel, what would be your top 3 picks if you were decorating your dining room?
Out of the current crop of starlets - say those 30 yo and under - who has the best shot reaching career heights and acclaim a la Moore, Pfeiffer, Streep, etc? And is said actress also your personal favorite?
We often complain about the overwhelming number of biopics that get made, but are there any famous folks who you'd like to see get the biopic treatment and why?
Sean T- the Phoenix (an East Village gay bar) has a weekly trivia night on Thursdays where many of the questions (as in one-quarter, perhaps too may for a general trivia night) are movie-related.
Favorite plate of food from I Am Love?
@MrW and Kermit: I'm just so thankful that as of January, I can say Dame Joan Collins. ;)
Nathaniel, what are your ten favorite cities and your favorite film that takes place in each?
Can you recast the main roles in Birdman as if it had been released in 1995? Or if not Birdman , then Carol or any movie you are excited about? Or if not 1995, then any year you feel like? Please answer my question ? :D
What are your thoughts on Kelli O'Hara? Other than the fact that she is the Tony's' Deborah Kerr. Have you seen her in many things? I fell head over heels for her in "The Bridges of Madison County" last year, and just got back from "The King and I" and she, again, stunned me.
We always want original screenplays, but are there any novels and/or theatrical plays that you wish would be adapted into a film (or perhaps there are a few that you are simply surprised and/or shocked because they haven't been adapted yet)? I'm asking because I just finished reading Conor McPherson's The Weir which floored me and I am stunned that no one has attempted to make this moving and chilling play into a film (at least not to my knowledge).
You told Nicole Kidman in your interview with her that she was the most important actress of the last decade. (I completely agree.) We've reached the halfway point for the 10s (Teens?). Who looks likely for this decade? My first thought was Jessica Chastain, but I could see Amy Adams, Viola Davis or Emma Stone being my pick within a few years. Not sure on the guys.
What is your opinion about "The Americans"?
Good question, eurocheese. I think my pick thus far would be Marion Cotillard, but your suggestions are all good too.
My question:
Which director/actress pairing would you most like to see? It can be current choices or an all-time pick that we were tragically deprived of (or both, of course). Personally, I'd love to see Nicole Kidman in a David Cronenberg movie. Also, Julianne Moore in an Almodovar film provided there was an English-speaking role or she learned some Spanish.
What's your favorite Filipino film?
With the "Avengers" sequel coming out soon, let's imagine a team-up of another sort. Who would be your "Avengers" of Women Who Lie to Themselves? It can be specific characters or just the actresses who play them.
Favorite dinner/eating/food scenes in the movies?
Another one: (1) List three of your favorite meals, (2) list three of your least favorite meals and then (3) Assign each meal an actor or actress that they most remind you of and explain why.
It's okay nathaniel. Afterall, I love food! (who doesn't?)
oooh, I think the verb should be "damed" for female. lol
Dame Kate Winslet and DAME TILDA SWINTON
on the same topic, which British actors should be knighted too?
Sir Daniel Day-Lewis and Sir Colin Firth easily comes to my mind.
Do you think audiences will ever flock to dramas again the way they used to years ago?
Who will be the next winner of a second Best Actress prize?
