I agree she is spectacular in the film and deserves serious awards attention. I hope you guys do a podcast because I need to hear like a 30 minute discussion on her hair alone. Byrne is a killer in comedy and I can't wait to see Spy again because every time I think about it I love it even more. Bring on Ghostbusters because Paul Feig really gets women in comedy showing it's no about showing dumb women but smart women good at what they do (e.g. Melissa McCarthy in each of their collaborations).
we'll all be as sad?
Her boyfriend, on the other hand, is disappointingly off in Spy, which is weird, because anyone who's seen Boardwalk Empire (among other things) knows that Bobby Cannavale has no problem being big/broad and still nailing a characterization.
Ha! I told you right!
'That moment I saw you standing there in that abortion of a dress, it was as if you were saying this is what I've got world, it's hideous but it's mine!' Boom.
She's been hitting it out of the park lately!
Good for her! So unexpected this ressurgence as a comic sensation!
Not that it'll happen, but if it did, it would quite surely be my favorite Oscar nomination of all time and will probably never be topped.
Oscar worthy comedic performances, my top two: Grace Jones in Boomerang (1992) and Paul Giamatti in Private Parts (1997).
3rtful: Alan Arkin in Grosse Pointe Blank?
Let's not forget Marisa Tomei in My Cousin Vinny. Iconic.

Let's start our own Twitter campaign so we can make this happen!!
I am so on board for this. We can pretend that it's for Bridesmaids too, which she also should have gotten in for.
MacCarthey. Straham & Byrn ALL deserve consideration (which they wont) but they should !
Already planning the sequel in my head where McCarthy needs to team up with Byrne THE HEAT style for some mission. YESSSSSSSSSSS.
I'm totally on board with this, she was great and has amazing chemistry with Melissa McCarthy.
Yaaaaaaaaas
No. Rose Byrne is overrated.
The clown in Bulgaria are not sad at all ;)
*clowns
seesaw - I don't know how she's overrated when she's constantly underrated.
I liked Spy but I really wanted to love it. I thought it was missing something. THE HEAT was far better.
The highlight for me was the second vomit joke and the knife gag.
Is there a sad Bulgarian clown reference in the film or? I don't get it. Please enlighten me :)
No, I agree with Seesaw. Rose Byrne is utterly overrated - not least here on TheFilmExperience -the way some of you went gaga over her in Neighbours was just nuts to me.
Yavor -- yes. there is.
Rose has been consistently good in so many films that it is about time she got some Oscar love for once.
And as an Australian I would love to see her join the ranks of Nicole Kidman, Russell Crowe, Hugh Jackman, Jackie Weaver, Geoffrey Rush and others as Oscar nominees and winners.
But I have a funny feeling that there will be an Australian actress nominated this year and it could be Judy Davis in The Dressmaker.
Yes! I saw it last night and she is so good. Great chemistry with Melissa too.
Let's dream big (I always do!) how about Rose Byrne gets a nod. & then Melissa McCarthey & THEN Kirsten Wiig for "Welcome to Me" & make next year Oscar all about Actress & Comedy. Wouldn't that be fun?
Yes, definitely. Rose Byrne in Spy is one of the most magnificent scene-stealing comedy performances I've seen in a long time and, seriously, I would LOVE to see her nominated for Best Supporting Actress. This really needs to happen.
I just saw it and I loved everything about it, including Rose. I think she does comedy so well because she plays it very straight and resists the urge of going incredibly broad or big. "Spy" is obviously a far-fetched, but I had no problem believing she was this spoiled brat of a villainess.
Rose Byrne was my VIP of Bridesmaids and I nominated her in my personal awards for best supporting actress that year. She was very close to another nomination for Neighbours. I liked her in Spy but not as much as the other two roles. I would support a nomination though. Her line readings were hilarious as was her hair and walk.
Wow, some of you are VERY easy to please.
Spy was pedestrian garbage. The sooner this era of ad-lib reliant "comedy" dies, the better.
Rose is always divine, but her flair for comedy is really extraordinary and reminds me of the classics like Myrna Loy and Carole Lombard. They just delivered with total ease. Rose does this too. I too believe she was MVP of Bridesmaiids, and I would have Oscar-nominated her instead of Melissa, who I also adore. I can't wait to see Spy!
I thought this was an ensemble thing moreso than Rose Byrne in particular standing out. All of them just played their parts so well. I would rather see McCarthy get a nomination for this if anyone, but since that's probably not gonna happen (though there's always GG comedy), I'd be happy with Byrne. Statham was great, too. Can we get an ensemble nod at SAG?
