Last Minute BEST SHOT Schedule Change for the VMAs

For tomorrow night's Best Shot we're moving Todd Haynes [safe] back one week to Wednesday July 29th -- trust that I can't deal with it right now emotionally for reasons I will explain next week

TOMORROW NIGHT INSTEAD...

We're talking MUSIC VIDEOS since the MTV VMA nominations were just announced -- and Nicki Minaj is NOT pleased that her "Anaconda" is not in the top category. If you've always wanted to try Best Shot, this is a simple experimental episode that you can do without renting any movies! Watch each video, choose a "best shot" from each, post it and explain why (on any of your social media outlets), let us know and we'll link up tomorrow night!

THE NOMINEES FOR BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY

Flying Lotus ft. Kendrick Lamar – “Never Catch Me” (Larkin Sieple)

Ed Sheeran – “Thinking Out Loud” (Daniel Pearl)

Taylor Swift ft. Kendrick Lamar – “Bad Blood” (Christopher Probst)

FKA Twigs – “Two Weeks” (Justin Brown)

Alt-J – “Left Hand Free” (Mike Simpson)

THIS WILL BE FUN, DON'T YOU THINK? JOIN THE PART TOMORROW NIGHT BY 10 PM

Great idea. But it's ***Nicki.

I love that FKA twigs video, but, as they say, Flying Lotus made one of the best music videos of all time.
I have no use for the other three.

Anonymous -- oops how dumb of me. especially since i was typing her name correctly on twitter just a moment ago. (sigh)

This does sound like fun, but like Mike in Canada, I agree that this is a pretty lame list of nominees.

The Flying Lotus video is obviously the best of the bunch by a country mile. Anything else winning would be a tragedy.

Oh man. I'm watching safe right now.

"emotionally for reasons I will explain next week" - I do hope everything is alright.

I'll be very intrigued to see everyone's shot of choice for that FKA Twigs video.

Hope everything's okay Nat!

You son of a bitch, this means another delayed video (and this time it's not even my fault!).

JK, I'm really excited to do this. It does irk me that Kendrick Lamar is not nominated (though in spite of To Pimp a Butterfly being my favorite album of the year so far - I'm considering writing a review of it and good kid, m.A.A.d. city - I don't think there's much out of its promo videos) but features into two of the nominees themselves.

It irks me even further that one of them is Taylor Swift whom I have a hard time tolerating as an artist, but HEY! the other is Flying Lotus and hell yes to that!

(Also, if only Hollywood were a bit more comfortable with LaVeyen Satanism, because the video for Ghost's "Cirice" both creeps me out and makes me laugh and I would have loved to see it nominated. Maybe I'll just take it as karma, since back when the single was released, I conceived of a music video idea of it that convinced my friends I was disturbed).

Ugh.

The real winner of this category wasn't even nominated. Madonna's GHOSTTOWN was visually off the charts beautiful!

July 22, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterDave

Defending Madonna's honor is exhausting and pointless but if you can say ONE positive thing about the Rebel Heart rollout, it's that she made two exceptionally beautiful videos. And she hasn't done that in a very long time.

It's sad that this is an awards body that once felt a geriatric Johnny Cash wasn't too old or outre to warrant recognition. And today someone as mainstream and germane to music videos as Madonna can't get a nomination. I mean, this is the woman who MADE the VMAs creating her best work in ages.

I don't want to dismiss the VMAs the way so many so easily do. But I'm afraid it's getting harder and harder to take them seriously.

If you think that FKA Twigs video is great, you NEED to check out this live performance on Jimmy Fallon. It's ridiculously incredible: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FI5NrA8fsj8

The Flying Lotus video is a head-and-shoulders winner, but I gotta give love to FKA twigs. No other artist coming up right now is on her aesthetic level

July 22, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterMargaret

The fact that "Never Catch Me" wasn't even nominated for the Social Message category confirms everything empty-headed about the VMAs for me. "Two black children dancing out of their coffins...how cool and stylish! Not sure what it means, but good choreography and lensing!"

OMG! I think FKA Twigs is my new obsession.

Just finished mine.

Will have to save Safe for next week.

Had a great deal of fun with these. http://www.awardsmadness.com/?p=1994
