No mountain between them at the moment...

Remember this past summer when we first heard that Kate Winslet and Idris Elba were making a romantic drama together? Here they are making out on the set of The Mountain Between Us

The 20th Century Fox movie about a man and a woman who survive a plane crash and have to trust each other to survive in the mountains, is directed by Hany Abu-Assad (who is best known for directing two Palestinian Oscar nominees: 20015's Paradise Now and 2013's Omar), is due in late October so basically we can expect it at the festivals...

What a pairing, eh? One legend on the comeback trail and another a hot commodity of the right now who really should be a big screen leading man by now but he spent this past year doing voice work for cartoons or being prosthetically disguised. After The Dressmaker, we suspect Kate Winslet is fired up again and ready to rock the silver screen.

Romantic dramas are tough to predict with Oscar. Might they go for this or will it be a mere blip in a crowded fall marketplace of adult dramas? The last romantic best-seller to transfer to the big screen was The Light Between Oceans which didn't fare so well though it was better than reviews suggested.

Care to make any predictions about how this one fares with audiences and critics?

This is controversy waiting to erupt. Black man white woman is the interracial taboo. Social media from all sides will have their say. Hoping Winslet says nothing to ruin my impression of her the way Rampling did.

Has anyone read the novel? I was planning to check it out but am curious to hear if it's any good.

i'd climb idris like a mountain...

I know she got nominated last year, but in my book, Kate is not doing the right movies.

@Peggy Sue

Winslet has the new Woody Allen this year. Surely if she's the best thing about it she'll be competitive for nominations.

IDRIS ELBA? In a LOVE STORY? With KATE WINSLET???

Where's the emoticon for jizzing all over your keyboard?

Please, let this be R-rated for sexual content. I would pay good money to see those 2 get it on!!!!

I'm loving this slow but steady artistic comeback for Kate. She has always been one of my favorite actresses ever but was sad to see her artistic output slow down after her win. But before that her record was near unimpeachable and I feel we are returning to that moment.

Which Kate/Cate do we think will beat Katharine Hepburn's nomination count first? Or will either. Kate seems more likely for a nomination sooner than Cate as Cate doesn't have any movies that scream Oscar in the next year or two.

I thought Kate was getting her groove back after Steve Jobs and The Dressmaker but then she made perhaps the biggest turkey of her career with Collateral Beauty this year.

She and Idris are hot as hell together, but I'm thinking this goes the way of The Light Between Oceans.

Collateral Beauty > Movie 43

That was painful to type.

The Light Between the Oceans. The Mountain Between Us. I hope there isn't a "between curse".

Winslet slowing down was understandable, not sure about the Legend tag though,I am pleased to see her doing something interesting though, can't see it being an Oscar film.

Collateral Beauty was not so terrible I think, but not the Best decision after her second should be Oscar for Steve Jobs. Hope that the screen chestry between IDris Elba and Kate will be fantastic, although it doesn´t scream Oscar to me, but thats not the Point to me.

I'm hoping for some sex scenes. You don't get a couple that gorgeous and don't have them in steamy sex scenes.

Kate Winslet definitely adds some sort of momentum to her name with the new Woody Allen movie now officially called Wonder Wheel . It's a drama (Blue Jasmine) she's clearly the lead (Cate Blanchett).

But it will have to be a Blue Jasmine: needs to revolve around her + needs to be a remarkable performance + needs to be critically acclaimed + needs to earn the Blue Jasmine money.

If it doesn't meet the above mentioned requirements I just don't see it. Especially since it's going to be a summer release and it'll need everything working in its favor for 5+ months.

The book is fantastic. All of Charles Martin's books are. I'm hoping the movie stays true to the book. And I love the actors they've chosen to bring it to life.

February 22, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterKerri E

These two look like they go well together, though I can't really think of many actors either of them haven't clicked with on screen. They're both really good at generating chemistry.

You never know with Woody Allen. Honestly, Wonder Wheel is just as if not more likely to be an Irrational Man than a Blue Jasmine (I still wish we could've seen her take on Match Point as was initially intended). Either way, I'm glad Kate is hovering around more now than she was in the years post her Oscar win. She's an exceptional actress.

/3artfull, Is US really still that touchy on interracial relationships? It's not like there arent films and tv shows that have interracial couples.

@ Chnouserie

You are somewhat aware of the outcome of the last election and the state of our society, yes?

February 22, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterPaul Outlaw

Kate was very good in Steve Jobs, but did nobody notice her Polish accent coming and going?

February 22, 2017 | Unregistered Commenterbrookesboy

Paul you validate my truth never my ignorance. Love you.

The Go-Between (one nomination).

Can't wait for this movie… not for the silly gushings some of these people wrote (YUK! )..

but because it may continue to show that color has NO boundaries. We really need to hold to this fact at this particular time in history.
