Ask Nathaniel
The Q&A was good last week, wasn't it? So lets do another one. Got a question? Ask it in the comments. Your theme, which you don't have to adhere to, is "May". May has Emerald as its birthstone, Taurus and Gemini as its the signs, The Virgin Mary as one of its prime devotions, and its also Asian Pacific American Heritage Month and Mental Health Awareness Month.
Ask some Star Wars questions for "Star Wars Day," too, while you're at it! Ready and go...

What is your favourite Star Wars character? And your favourite Star Wars actor?
If you could pick a woman to helm a Star Wars film, who would you choose?
Who do you think will be the internet's favorite for an oscar win now that leo got his oscar?
May rhymes with Tomei: From her three nods–which is your favorite? Were you a fan before her first nod? Are you frustrated surprise Oscar wins for acting are improbable today?
Virgin Mary - Madonna - Madonna question
Would you ever want Madonna to act in another film? If so, what kind of film would you want her to return to the cinema in?
If you did a May Flowers series (as opposed to April Showers), what two movies would you choose to kick it off with?
Personally I adore Maude's daisy speech from Harold and Maude, but I suspect you may have something to say about the calla lilies being in bloom again ...
Any suggestions for preserving the mid-range budgeted drama?
Oh crap dammit, you already did a May Flowers series and I forgot about it.
New question -- have you ever felt the need to ridicule a commenter? If so, what did you do? :P
Two questions:
Are you familiar with Kenneth Williams?
He's an English actor, raconteur and comedian I recently discovered for myself, best known for starring in a gazillion 'Carry on' movies and participating for decades in the BBC radio panel show 'Just a Minute' - his most lasting impact on film history, though, may be the fact that he befriended young ingénue Maggie Smith early in her career (late 1950s) and provided a template for her persona with his speech patterns and affectations (Williams was by all accounts a closeted and celibate gay man, and - well, it shows). There's a joint television interview of the two of them to be found on the internet where she admits to "pinching" from him all the time - and from just watching interviews with Williams, it becomes obvious that Maggie's posh Gosford-Park-Downton-Abbey-persona really is a distilled and refined Kenneth Williams.
What do you think of podcasts as a narrative medium? Do you listen to hem at at all? If you did listen to it, what do you think about 'Homecoming'? (Homecoming could probably be labelled a psychological thriller starring Catherine Keener, David Schwimmer and Oscar Isaac, and altogether is about as along as one feature film.)
Who is the next white woman to join the best actress club?
Any chance for Rooney Mara to break through, or was her moment over with Carol?
Gonna go a bit crazy with this one: Now that we have a female Ghostbusters, and a female Ocean's movie on the way, is there another male-dominated movie you would like to see redone with a female cast? If so, what?
Bonus: My pick for this would be Jaws - who would you cast as the 3 main characters (Brody, Quinn, and Hooper)?
Take your pick:
1) Some years, the sixth placer is really obvious. For instance, it happened to Cameron Diaz twice (!) when, on paper, she had the nomination on lock for supporting actress--first for Being John Malkovich, and later for Vanilla Sky. Which actor or actress, that you think was a sixth placer in a particular year, do you think should've been nominated? And who would you swap them out for?
2) Can Christina Ricci ever come back and snag an Oscar nomination?
3) Why didn't Lisa Kudrow have a bigger film career?
Since Annette Bening will be playing her soon, what are your thoughts on Gloria Grahame as an actress?
Hi Nathaniel, have you ever listed your favourite performances that Oscar ignored and didn't nominate?
PoliVamp: That is an amazing question/suggestion
Danielle Darrieux just turned 100. What film would you recommend to others as a must see that features her?
In your opinion, what are the best May-December romances on film where the female love interest is significantly older?
PoliVamp, Arkaan: it's a good question, but it's been done here.

Considering she's currently giving some of the best work on TV right now, do you think Carrie Coon could break through with Oscar as well right now, ala her own Frozen River? What do you think of Leftovers so far this season?
do you think Debra Winger still has a chance to receive an Oscar ? who's gonna direct her ?
While it received great reviews at the time, May (2003) seems to have faded a little in horror buff consciousness.
Both Angela Bettis and Anna Faris are amazing, in my opinion - what do you think of each underutilized actress in this movie and which is your favourite performance overall by each?
Why is "Wings" acknowledged as the only first Best Picture Winner? Why aren't there two acknowledged since "Wings" won Best Production and "Sunrise" won Best Picture, Unique and Artistic Production?
Are you going to finish the Film Bitch awards!? Traditions this long must be kept alive! I love all your special categories the most!
Do you predict a comeback for Sharon Stone? Any suggestions a la Ryan Murphy cable series? She has such star quality it's a shame to see her wasted in Redbox B-movies
What are your 5 favorite Toni Collette performances?
Within the past year Cynthia Erivo has won a Tony (Best Leading Actress), Grammy (Best Musical Theatre Album, which now also goes to the principle soloists), and Daytime Emmy (Best Musical Performance in a Daytime Program) for her work in the recent Broadway revival of The Color Purple, making her only one step away from completing the EGOT. Which type of project do you think would giver her her best chance at winning an Oscar?
@Troy H
She has a plum role in the Steve McQueen's Widows. A supporting campaign is inevitable.
@Troy H. - I wish someone would turn that Color Purple musical into a movie with her.
Nat, what is the most recent Oscar-nominated performance that you have NOT seen and what's keeping you from seeing it?
Any other nominated performances you haven't seen that we'd be surprised you haven't seen?
With all the backlash from studios casting white actors in Asian roles, do you believe casting will become more ethnically realistic? And which Asian or Asian-heritage actors do you believe have breakaway star potential?
@DJDeeJay
An adaptation of the musical version of The Color Purple has been in the works for some time. I'm against the idea simply because I don't want a competing version to muddy the waters for the film's legacy.
I was watching an old episode of Oprah from 1990 with Siskel & Ebert as the guests, and the audience questions were surprisingly centered around being sick of sequels and wanting more original stories. Do you think audiences at large still feel that way, or has everyone more or less accepted that the current franchise dominance is the way of the foreseeable future? I'm often made to feel like a sourpuss whenever I express my opinion that 3 Marvel movies and a new Star Wars movie every year is ridiculous, so maybe that's the minority opinion now. Do you ever think we'll see a day when a non-franchise movie makes a huge impact at the box office again?
/3rtful, I'm aware of that bit of casting news though unfamiliar with the nature of the role itself.
DJDeeJay, I'd rather see her as "Elphaba" in the Wicked film adaptation.
She's one of the Widows dude.
What male pretty boy actor would you love to see Almodovar direct?
I can't recall if you answered. Do you have a preference between Bette Davis and Joan Crawford? Favorite performance?
I thought "Hush Hush" was pretty awful. Do you think it could have been a better film with Joan finishing her role?
