Beauty Break: Dog-Loving Natalie Wood

by Nathaniel R

You can find a few photos of the legendary Natalie Wood as a pint-sized actress with cats, but once the child star came into her own in Hollywood as a regular-aged movie star she was inarguably a dog person.

Her most common photo accessories for a time were her white poodle Fifi and her silver poodle Morningstar. Curiously I've never seen them in a photo together (by all accounts she had multiple pets but perhaps these two only overlapped in the late 1950s with Morningstar hogging the camera by the early 60s?).But they were hardly her only four legged Best Friends in her 43 years on earth.

After the jump more furry beauty shots...

She was all about Fifi in the mid to late 50s

And Morningstar, too...

Here's a very famous shot of Morningstar accompanying Natalie Wood to what is surely a cheesecake photo shoot. But it's more fun to think of it as a pre-downward dog yoga routine by the starlet's pool.

And another one of Morningstar. Did she name him/her after her movie Marjorie Morningstar (1958)?

and yet another one of that photogenic silver poodle.

Morningstar was a constant presence by the pool

Natalie gets a chihuahua in her stocking. A rare non-poodle in the child star years.

Dogs on set, here are two pups from the sets of The Ghost and Mrs Muir (1947) and Rebel Without a Cause (1955) respectively

Glamorous peak Natalie of the 1960s. Adjusting her earrings with dog in lap.

Three puppies in the morning. A fine way to start the day

The older now legendary star - I think this photo is from the 1970s -- with another pup in lap.

Natalie Wood was, by far, my most favorite movie star of all time. Her movies, sometimes, were not the best... but when she had great directors, she did high quality work... i.e. Love with the Proper Stranger, Splendor in the Grass, West Side Story...

I so thank you, Nathaniel, for keeping her spirit alive.

A beautiful star at every stage of her career.

Slightly off topic - I met Robert Wagner in New Orleans earlier this year with his current wife, Jill St. John. They were both so charming and lovely. Easy to see why Natalie fell in love with him all those years ago. :)

Tyler, did you ask him why he did it?

What a lovely presence on screen. She was quite special. I have a soft spot for Splendor and Brainstorm.

@Norman: No! Haha. I'm not sure what I believe about the circumstances surrounding her death. I really do hope that it was just a freak accident.

At least two of those photos would make fantastic Christmas cards and would spread out the Natalie fandom.

Who doesn't love Natalie Wood?

I know a few people who met her 7 said she was even more beautiful on the inside than she was on the outside.
