This Year's "Miss Golden Globe" is... Isan Elba
by Nathaniel R
Yes, yes. The title is now technically "Golden Globe Ambassador" but we like the campier original title "Miss." It's more befitting to the unholy tradition of Hollywood celebrities sacrificing their children to the HFPA in ritualistic gene-pool exhibition.
Kim and Idris Elba's daughter Isan is the new ambassador and does plan to go into showbusiness though she's waffling between acting and directing. (FYI: The only previous Miss Golden Globes that went on to become Golden Globe nominated actors themselves are Linda Evans, Anne Archer, Melanie Griffith, Laura Dern, and Joely Fisher... though we imagine Dakota Johnson will get there some day.) Isan and Idris's statements are after the jump...
In addition to her duties helping to distribute the trophies at the Golden Globes on January 6th Isan will work to raise awareness of mental health issues, her chosen charitable cause.
On her charitable cause, Isan states:
Mental health, specifically among African Americans and my peers in particular, is something I really want to be more vocal about. There’s this perceived stigma and I’ve seen friends struggle. We need to empower young people to not be afraid to ask for help.”
Here's Idris speaking about his daughter's honor:

Can't believe they're still doing this.
This the worse thing about the Globes. And she released that statement we hear from every single person of notoriety/celebrity/fame.
it's embarrassing how parents do that to their kids and how they are willing to go through that obvious nepotism
It bothers me because there are 100's of people struggling in the arts trying to get one toe in the door and these so called artists/talents sons/daughters get so many more oppurtunities and when they get there are fairly often for most of them hopeless.
Surprised by the hostility!
I think it's a cute tradition. Mostly because when Melanie Griffith won for Working Girl the first words out of her mouth were "I was Miss Golden Globes!"
Sure, nepotism has yielded duds but without it we wouldn't have Carrie Fisher, Michael Douglas, Jamie Lee Curtis...certainly not in the iterations we know and love them.
True but they all proved themselves over and over.
From Sexiest Man Alive to Golden Globes Ambassador — all in the span of a week — the Elbas have had a good month.
And don't forget Linda Evans! She's the original Miss Golden Globes-turned-Golden Globe Award winner (for Dynasty).
It's the Golden Globes, what are y'all expecting? They're always remarkably on brand. If you're upset, that's on you. lmao.
Golden Globes.... BLAH!!!!! They suck then and they still suck. Though I did get a kick out of that moment when Adele won a Golden Globe and the look that Taylor Swift had which showed how much of a fucking bitch she really is. She just can't seem to take losing properly. Well, I hope someone does write a diss song about her and reveal that she is a succubus.
It's a quaint tradition, one of those things Hollywood does to show that it is, on occasion, a tiny community of people who know each other.
I know I'm wrong for my lack of outrage that has to swallow me up and spit me out, challenging my will to live, but whatever.
The Golden Globes gave Lady Bird its only televised awards last year. They gave Gene Hackman a Best Actor trophy for The Royal Tenenbaums. They gave Isabelle Huppert a Best Actress trophy for Elle. They gave us Oprah's speech in 2018 and Meryl's speech in 2017 (both better than any recent Oscar speeches). They gave us Tina and Amy as hosts. They don't suck.
