Good Morning, Charlie!
By Spencer Coile
It’s been 18 years since the film remake of Charlie’s Angels was released and 7 since the failed television reboot aired – not to mention over 40 years since the original television series premiered. But as time has shown us in the past few years, nostalgia sells. And so we have news of a new Charlie’s Angels.
With Elizabeth Banks set to direct and star in the film and the three leads rumored to be played by Lupita Nyong’o, Naomi Scott, and Kristen Stewart, our anticipation escalates. A story about strong women told by women! Although casting is still in the works, the film is rumored to be looking at the summer of 2019.
Does this news excite you, or have you had enough of reboots? Who will voice Charlie (fingers crossed on Judi Dench or Viola Davis)? But perhaps most importantly, is anyone else a huge fan of 2003’s Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle?

This cast seems like a random group of people. Do their personalities and energies match? Hopefully we will be pleasantly surprised.
I'd be more interested if they were in a remake of How To Marry a Millionaire
I love Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle. I love the first film as well and can't wait for this one.
The 2nd one did am up every single piece of the production, but I loved it anyway. More! More! More! i say.
Love You, Farrah, wherever you are!!!
I feel like Luptia's post-12 Years a Slave career has just been a series of casting announcements that never come to fruition. I'm more interested in seeing her take on Americanah. What ever happened to that production?
Charlie's Angels? No thanks. Never cared for the show. Never liked the movies. Three beautiful chicks kicking ass? Come on. Give me something better than that like 7 women just going ape-shit by castrating a guy and kill him or throw some beauty queen out of a high-rise hotel building as she lands on some limo. That's what I want to see.
I want to be open minded but my first thought is “great cast, unnecessary film, give them something better”.
Guilty - loved Charlie's Angels and the sequel. I own both.
Isn't this the equivalent of the swimsuit competition in beauty pageants? They are beautiful and work for a man?
Can we cast these ladies in something else instead?
Seriously why?
I know it's no longer cool to hate on Kristen Stewart and I've liked SOME of her recent work but I think this would be better with someone with movie star charisma. She has NO charisma.
Never heard of Naomi Scott.
I LOVE Lupita and she is an angel but this might be a waste of her talent.
Loved the first two "Angels" movies. For this one I think a lot will come down to tone/approach - Banks is known for comedy but I'm betting this will have a very different vibe from the irreverence of the 00's version. I'm not sure what that leaves us with, though - just an action movie?
Boring!!!!!
What a bizarre cast.
At least two of these women are lesbians in real life so good luck.
I have real respect and love for Elizabeth Banks, but "Charlie's Angels" was a lame show, and I worry that she won't be able to raise the quality of the source material. But if she succeeds...
In my best Cher imitation: Naomi WHOOOOO??!! 😂
I’m up for this—could be fun in an Ocean’s 8 kind of way! But I’m more intrigued by the idea of them starring in a movie called “At Least Two These Women is a Lesbian.”
I thought this was one of those "dream cast" articles. The idea that this is real actually interests me a lot. I loved the first movie, although the sequel was really bad. I'd love to see what a female director (and a director with actual talent to boot) does with this.
If I spot it on cable, I will always sneak a peek at CA:FT. What’s not to like? It’s great cinematic carnival eye candy. The Pussycat Dolls/Chicago scene? Cameron at prom dancing to Last Dance? Pink’s Feel Good Time (which deserved to be nominated as Best Original Song?
I could almost stomach another remake if they’d bring in Cameron Diaz-perhaps as the ‘Angel gone bad’ roll that resurrected interest in Demi Moore’s CA:FT appearance. Just don’t think any of these new 3 extert any type of humor for this project.
Díaz has retired from acting so that’s wishful thinking.
Moore in CA:FT was pretty terrific.
I like Stewart but could they have chosen a less-fun actress for this? She smiles so infrequently both on and off screen I'm not sure she even has teeth. I mean, maybe she''s trying to expand her range which is great but eesh. This feels like a giant leap instead of maybe some baby steps.
