How I Feel / How I Wish I Felt

...as demonstrated by Nicholas Hoult

Sick day. Not cute. Talk amongst yourselves whilst we cough, sleep, sneeze, and ache ... it's an open thread.

You know, I cant stop thinking about how impressed I was by the actual Oscar show! It was looking like it would be a huge embarrassment, but they nailed it, didn't lose any of the things I want from a telecast (besides a more robust Honorary segment,) and kept it tight

But it would have been improved if Hoult had been a nominee.

This weekend's various discourse and hot takes amongst Film Twitter, among others, regarding Netflix/Spielberg has been highly fascinating. Should be intriguing to see how it evolves and develops.

Maybe you should move to Cali? NY is filled with germs. You live in an elevator-subway culture.

Why does it feel like there’s nothing even remotely interesting in theatres right now? Was there always this death of quality at the beginning of the year, or am I just practicing revisionist history? Anyways, thankful for ‘Gloria Bell’ and ‘Us’ at the very least.

Falling hard for “Secret City” on Netflix. Anna Torv and Jacki Weaver! Any other recommendations for Australian TV shows? I’ve heard good things about Rachel Griffiths in Dead Lucky, but can’t find a place to stream it.

Feel better, Nathaniel!

Feel better, Nathaniel!

Come to Brazil!

It’s Carnival now and people are absolutely euphoric!

I'm thinking about how Olivia Colman's Best Actress win might have been the best thing to happen to Glenn Close as far as Oscar is concerned. Suddenly, Sunset Boulevard is scheduled to begin shooting before the end of the year.

Rest up, Nathaniel!

I was thinking over the weekend about what 5 Best Picture nominees would have looked like this year:
1) GREEN BOOK - had to be there because it won (!), even it no director nomination
2) ROMA - 10 nominations makes this likely to have made it
3) THE FAVOURITE - 10 nominations makes this likely to have made it
4) BLACKKKLANSMAN - I think this would have made it given the Director nomination and it was barely missing any precursor nominations
5) VICE - I think this would have been #5. It had a director nomination, 7 other nominations and it was peaking around nomination time (remember when Christian Bale looked a threat to win?).

Shockingly this would mean no room for A STAR IS BORN (despite 7 other nominations) or BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY (so it would have won all the Oscars it was nominated for). And no BLACK PANTHER either.

Mad Max Nicholas kinda looks like a Deadpool version of you.

Nathaniel...Freddie Mercury's biopic was named after his song Bohemian Rhapsody...what Lady Gaga song would be the title of her musical biopic?

The obvious choice (to date) would be Born This Way...but why not, I don't know, go with an obscure Gaga catalog title, like Government Hooker or Highway Unicorn? No?

March 3, 2019 | Unregistered CommenterSoSue

Steve G -- that's an interesting question because it's not really clear. Would we have had a 3/5 year for director / pic split and NOT had Vice in there? Because the Bohemian Rhapsody madness was real. And so was A Star is Born's strong guild record.

/3rtful -- i have no wish to leave NYC, germs and all.

Remember when Frances winked at Glenn during the Best Actress presentantion while playing with the envelope and then turned her head to Olivia who totally noticed that she was going to win?
