An automatic "yup" for "Nope"
Apologies for two movie poster posts in a row but you know time is; sometimes you have it sometimes you don't. Oscar winning Jordan Peele's third film will be called Nope and star Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer, and Steven Yeun. It arrives in almost exactly a year's time. The supporting cast features Barbie Ferreira (Unpregnant), Brandon Perea (The OA), and Michael Wincott (The Crow).
After his zeitgeist horror hits Get Out and Us, Peele is either sticking with horror for good or he's just working through a trilogy of terror before he tries his very talented hands at some other movie genre. Normally super generic and impossible to search on the internet titles make us shudder, and not in the good horror movie way. But Peele's films have thus far earned their simple titles and somehow made them ultra-memorable moments within the films. So we're hoping the "nope" scene in Nope inspires lots of yaaaaaassss from audiences.
Questions for the comments
1. On a scale of 1-10 how excited are you for his third effort?
2. Do you think aliens are involved since we're seeing the stars and that cloud obviously ain't no natural cloud?
3. How often do you become absolutely furious remembering that Lupita Nyong'o wasn't even nominated for what should have been an Oscar-winning star turn in Us. Sorry. Maybe that's just... us.

The presence of Daniel Kaluuya raises the possibility of a sequel to Get Out.
Whatever it's about he's a real maestro with horror and horror film performances despite the category placement Get Out is horror.
Us was too much of a let down to be enthusiastic over this.
I was disappointed by Us- but Get Out is a masterpiece. Peele gets an automatic yes for that movie forever.
Like Tom, I think GET OUT gives Peele an automatic yes for a good while from me. Plus THAT cast? Yeun alone, I'd be an automatic yes also.
"Get Out" was great . "Us" was well done but the script got confusing specially at the end. Not too crazy about the title - it looks like it me dealing with aliens . Peele is a talented film maker so yes I would go see this and speaking of smart horror films - check out "The Empty Man"
In its complicated and ugly way, Us is often superior to Get Out, so I'm definitely looking forward to Nope.
Yeah, I'm going to see this as I love Get Out and really enjoyed Us.
1)Yup for Nope, although, with reservations (maybe 3rd time's the charm)..see below 2)I predict, and hope Aliens are involved 3)Not disappointed because...I did not like either "Get Out", already saw all that in "The Stepford Wives" and really couldn't stand "Us", all over the place, illogical, unsatisfying and ridiculous.
I will always be thankful for “Us” for giving Lupita a role worthy of her expansive talents - can we please get more of that? I’d like her post Oscar career to be prolific but so far it’s slow going
I love the title (“Nope”). I think it’s very self aware and could be tongue-in-cheek in a modern slang way. Most horror movies feature moments I’d nope out of in an instant.
Us was terrible. I mean, the acting was great, and I loved the score, but what a mess of a script. I was shocked and disappointed—so many plot holes! I digress…
I’m excited. I think Daniel is super talented (and such a cutie); same goes for Steven. And I’m hoping this is a role that allows Keke to stretch herself and show the depth of her gifts. She’s so cute and has heaps of charisma, so I’m happy she’s getting such a big opportunity!
I'm so excited to see what he does with Keke - she is crying out for a star vehicle.
lupita was robbed - so much better than any of the nominees that year
I loved Get Out and I liked Us (I think it's a flawed but still quite a good film; a second viewing helps) - so of COURSE I'm down for this. I love good horror films and Peele is a good filmmaker.
Us is better than Get Out. I actually found the latter to be predictable and not very scary, even if both are well made. Us was a big step up technically speaking, with better lensing and a bigger canvas. So consider me very excited for this.
Nyongo should've won for Us, not 12 Years.
1. YES!!! Especially given the title. "Nope" is the word many Black folks use to dissociate ourselves from horror scenarios.
2. I hope so. You rarely see Black characters centered in that genre (which is why I'm also looking forward to the sequel to Attack The Block).
3. Lupita was ROBBED.
Peele is not exactly a director that provides a strong visual narrative to his films. His best work is Get Out's cohesive, satirical screenplay - and I'd like to see more of that in Nope.
1. 8
2. A bit better than a 50/50 chance.
3. She should have been but there are more egregious omissions (Max von Sydow honorary Oscar, cough, cough).
This early poster drop reminds me of the old Hammer posters for films that the producers were still trying to raise money for, in other words, posters for films that haven’t even gone before the cameras yet! In terms of those, I’d put this above WHEN THE EARTH CRACKED OPEN but below ZEPPELIN V PTERODACTYLS. (This is not a dig. I love Zeppelins and pterodactyls and it was going to star Peter Cushing as a German dirigible captain. How did that film not get made??)
2 films. 2 horror films. 2 instant classics. So yes, for the 3rd
Recently rewatched Hereditary and Us. If Collette couldn’t get a nom for her extraordinary, titanic, gut-wrenching (and many more superlatives) performance, no way would they nominate Lupita, which is less impactful the second viewing already.
1. I'm s 20 out of 10 excited.
2. I hadn't thought of that but now that I take a second look, YES
3. Lupita was SO CLOSE to getting nominated iMO and ugh would have been an excellent winner that year.
I get the impression from the title that this is a horror-comedy, which just sounds fun, so I’m a total YES.
