We reached out to Abe for a comment:
I was surprised and delighted to see my first trailer pull quote for a film that I found genuinely immersive and interesting. I'm excited to be a part of the marketing campaign for a film that I know will be warmly received by audiences, especially The Film Experience readers!
If you've forgotten about Carmen -- it premiered at film festivals last year but is just now getting a release -- here's your reminder that it's a dance musical directed by Natalie Portman's balletic husband Benjamin Millipied. In demand and freshly Oscar nominated Paul Mescal (Aftersun) stars alongside Melissa Barrera as the titular character. Barrera already proved her dance/musical chops with her sexy star turn in In the Heights (2021). And, to make us even more excited for Friday night at the movie theater, the inimitable Rossy de Palma (of Almodóvarian fame) has the key supporting role.

Carmen is hitting select theaters but the competition for screens and audience attention is heated. It's a surprisingly crowded marketplace again (thankfully). Last year's newbies were plentiful and this weekend we get Carmen plus the costume drama Chevalier, horror sequel Evil Dead Rise, crime thriller To Catch a Killer (from the director of the sensational Argentinian film Wild Tales), Jake Gyllenhaal in Guy Ritchie's war film The Covenant, the music doc Little Richard: I Am Everything, French goddess Virginie Efira's latest star vehicle Other People's Children, Japan's recent Oscar submission Plan 75, and the Ray Romano/Laurie Metcalf comedy Somewhere in Queens all available and eager for your eyeballs.

Is this the Marissa who is playing Amy Winehouse in another in a long line of biopics about dead singers none of which have been remotely interesting or well made.
I dream of a world of Academy Award Winner Rossy de Palma... there are 3 occasions that had her role being in English, she would probably have won it... Almodovar's Kika, The Flower of My Secret and Julieta.
Actually, how many acting Oscars would have Almodovar films achieved, if foreign language performances didn't have an uphill to be nominated and win?
I saw Beau is Afraid a few days ago, so I'm good.
I will watch Carmen, when it's on Netflix.
