First & Last 009

Can you guess the movie from its first and last shot? This one is ironically for Pride month.

The answer is after the jump when you scroll down...

If you don't recognize the first image it's because it's a strobe light on dancing bodies inbetween title cards. How perfect that the first image is blue and red and the characters all have color coded names.  This is Gregg Araki's self proclaimed "Heterosexual Movie" The Doom Generation (1995) but in actually it's queer af. As long as I live I'll never forget a certain, uh, moment with Xavier Red (Johnathon Schaech) 'cleaning' his fingers after watching Jordan White (James Duval) and Amy Blue (Rose McGowan) having sex. The Doom Generation is currently streaming on the Criterion Channel along with the two other Araki pictures (Totally F***** Up, and Mysterious Skin).

Oh how I long to find a dvd of Gregg Araki’s ‘Nowhere’ which is fantastic. I wore out my vhs watching it when I was younger haha.

I recently watched this for the first time, and it's a pretty great joke how queer it is, considering that it's (ostensibly) a hetero love triangle.

I love how Johnathon Schaech is fetishized in it. It's a terrific performance. There's a great shot where he shows James Duval his belt...

It took me a while to figure out but that last shot cinched it for me as I had that film on VHS as I await for the upcoming restoration. It was my first glimpse of Gregg Araki and I've been a fan of his since. I hope there's a new box set of his entire body of work being released.

I am not a very big fan of English series that's the reason I am just unable to understand which movie is this.
