25 Best Performances By People Whose...

One thing I forgot to mention about that issue of W magazine that Rooney Mara / Dragon Tatoo covers (discussed yesterday) is that it also contains an article called "25 Best Performances of the Year". Some though not all of the 25 are online now including: Julianne Moore, Michael Douglas, Jeff Bridges, Nicole Kidman, Mila Kunis, Justin Timberlake... In other words "25 Best Performances By People Whose Names Move Magazines Off The Shelves" but that title just seems so... honest.

We can't have that during awards season!

How great is the photo of Helena Bonham-Carter? I'm dying!

AFTER THE JUMP my 4 other favorite photos from an incredible W shoot by Inez Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin. It's enough to make me want to buy a hard copy and I never do that anymore.

Exotic Birds Mark Ruffalo and Mila KunisThe photo of Ruffalo totally makes me want to see him in a production of Hair, the musical. The last one I saw was so damn good.

Nicole Kidman's Social Network

Odd Confession: Normally I don't like black and white photos of Nicole Kidman (I think it's because the red of the hair and the blue of the eyes really gets to me. But I love this one.

I love Dakota Fanning photo a la Jodie Foster in Taxi Driver

You didn't love the scary scary aggressive Julianne Moore?

I quite liked the Javier Bardem and Vincent Cassel ones, though that could just be because they're ridiculously handsome...

I also really liked Melissa Leo's. It's kind of a "Little Orphan Annie-all-grown-up" meets "Star is Born-era Babs." That woman is a chameleon. Glad she's finally getting recognition for her work, and more so, glad she's actually getting work.

I particularly love the Colin Firth picture.

Nicole's pic makes me long for the days of her and Wong Kar-Wai reportedly joining forces for a new take on Welles' The Lady from Shanghai. She'd be a wonderful femme fatale!

Andrew Garfield's arms are a work of art.

Dakota-Jodie insinuation so cliched and frankly, aggravating. Every young actress says they want a Jodie-Foster-type trajectory, and Dakota mentions it once too many times for my liking. Dakota, please just stop. I have a feeling that your younger sister is more talented, anyway.

Also, is it possible that Natalie Portman, one of the most beautiful people in the world, is impossibly dull to photograph?

How hot does Nicole Kidman in that pic...

doesn't Melissa Leo look a lot like Jennifer Jason Leigh on that pic? http://www.wmagazine.com/celebrities/2011/02/best_performances_ss#slide=18

Nicole is the greatest star; she is by far.

Hi Nathaniel. Keep up the great and witty work, buddy.

Kidman recalls Debbie Harry, Natalie Wood and Marilyn in that shot!

the Mark Ruffalo and Helena Bonham Carter pix are stunning but that one of Julianne Moore is just *brilliant*
