John Waters is a Black Swan fan - I just know it. Ms Turner marked the box next to Jacki Weaver's name.
Something tells me John Waters would (or maybe does) love DOGTOOTH--*the* best film of 2010, btw. Still can’t get over that Best Foreign Film nom, one of Oscar’s finer moments I must say
on a side note, I'll bet Waters was a huge fan of Turner's naughty work on the last season of CALIFORNICATION... the scary part is i'm sure even he (the man who helmed PINK f-ing FLAMINGOS) would have been shocked by the colorful phrases she says to Duchovny's character...
Oh, Kathleen. How I wish her post-80s career had turned out better. But at least she did Serial Mom. Thanks, John!
Let's assume that Kathleen is perplexed that she was offered neither the Melissa Leo role in The Fighter nor the Barbara Hershey role in Black Swan, and that she is advocating for an American remake of Animal Kingdom.
Nick --- now i'm going to be fantasizing about Turner playing an evil grandmother. Thanks!
Ryan -- did Californication get better afte rthe first tseason. I didn't like the first few episodes so didn't watch any more and subsequently didn't see Turner.
I saw "Serial Mom" in the theater as a teenager... did not know quite what I was getting into! Plus, Ricki Lake, Sam Waterston (!), and Suzanne Somers. Win-win-win.
Waters seems like a Black Swan kinda guy, though maybe in private he's more of a Winter's Bone, campion of the indie kinda guy.
RE: Californication: It definitely had some growing pains, but it's found it's rhythm in recent years and has been infinitely helped by the seasonal recurring guest cast. If you're going to give it another shot, start again with season three and go from there. (It's currently in its fourth.) I'll say though that the entire appeal of the show hinges on Duchovny's charisma. If you don't find him charming or appealing, in spite of his character's MAJOR flaws, it's just not the show for you.
Yay here, too. I used to love Serial Mom, but I think I haven't seen it in a decade or so. Kathleen Turner was in Californication? It didn't make it past the middle of season 2 here in Germany yet... I guess too few people liked it. Not really a surprise.
Loooved Duchovny in this! Loved Madeline Zima and the former Mrs. Macaulay Culkin in season 1.
I've incidentally seen another John Waters movie three times in the last two years and kinda grown attached to it: Cry-Baby. If I wouldn't hate Teri Hatcher's character on Desperate Housewives so much, I would even consider naming my daughter - if I ever have one - Suzy Q. ;-)
