have you been reading about this online bitch-fight James Franco vs. Bruce Vilanch about the Oscar night performance failure? Vilanch bitches that Franco was not available until Thursday and wasn't committed enough and Franco basically implies that Vilanche's jokes aren't funny -- and even disses Bette Midler in the process (uncalled for. After this and his dissing of The Social Network I'm starting to lose faith that Mr. Franco knows what he's talking about.). Gold Derby weirdly sides with Franco stating that there's no reason he needed to be in town longer than he was (!!! say what now? a live multi million dollar production and it's OK that he's not in town until three days prior?) but if you ask me everyone is at fault, Vilanch because the jokes aren't particularly strong but especially Franco since everyone and their Aunt Martha understands how difficult the Oscar hosting gig is. If you have 7,001 things going on maybe you shouldn't commit to doing a 7,002nd half assed and for a big stack of money? But maybe that's because I share this flaw (the overbooking not the big stacks of money). But when a huge one night a year historical event is counting on you and paying you, maybe it deserves your full attention? Just a thought. The Wrap says they've since made up.

Could James Franco be more of a petulant child? I skimmed this story yesterday since the first thing I read about it was the picture above and just like you thought, if he's trying to prove his point by dissing Bette Midler than he really has no clue. Kiddo, you have a lot of growing up to do.

Have you seen Franco's video on his twitter page? He shot a lot of stuff backstage at the oscars and also walking on stage. It's fascinating to be sure (especially the POV of him walking through the curtain for the opening, it gave me chills), but also completely shows how little he cared about the whole thing. In fact his excitement for his own videos is what was completely lacking in his hosting manner. There's even one where right before going onstage later on Hathaway (who's a doll throughout, putting up with him the entire time) turns to him and says, only slightly irritated "oh you're shooting AGAIN? (nervous laugh)".

She is a favorite of mine because of all the reasons many of those ladies gave. I find her acting to be so Type A and architectural it acquires a strange sort of beauty. There's something insane lurking beneath that veneer in many of her great films.

So true what you write about hosting the Oscar. Yes, people should not do a 1000th thing half assed, especially if it's so much responsibility and pays you a lot of money. The problem of overbooking is not unknown to me either and there is a point when even if you try your best you just won't be able to do a good job everywhere, so not caring is even less acceptable for me in this situation.
I like James Franco as an actor but as a person I'm not sure what to think about him now. With all do respect, he must have felt he was not doing his best or even trying on Oscar night. That or he doesn't have the talent for it. Either way, he should just draw the conclusion and accept it wasn't a good one.
