Rose is Sad; Rose is Comedy
Robert (author of Distant Relatives) here, pondering why Rose Byrne is always so sad. Have you noticed this? Which is why I was shocked to see her show up in the ensemble comedic cast of Bridesmaids. Now from what I hear Ms. Byrne is something of the straight man of the group. Most of the buzz for this film is falling in the laps of Maya Rudolph and especially Kristen Wiig, the lead, as it should be.
But still, as long as we're talking about whether this film can put to rest the notion that women can't be raunchy funny, can we also put to rest the typcasting rut that too many particularly good actresses fall into. If anything it would make Rose Byrne less sad.

Ah, but she was also pretty hil-AHR-ious in Get Him to the Greek, in which she gets to be a pop diva! Totally agreed: she needs to smile more. Buck up, Rosie!
Dude, you need to watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RRJjPXqxRis
I aspire to be Rose Byrne's character in Marie Antoinette, and in no way was Madame Polignac sad.
I dunno if this is the same as what JA posted, but you will never see Rose as sad again.

She's an odd one though, I really like her and her acting, thought she was brilliant in Wicker Park, but then she was so awfull in Knowing, I don't know what happened.
Can't wait for Bridesmaids though
Paolo: I LOVE her in Marie Antoinette. "I said 'Whatcha gonna do with that, monsieur?'"
She earns a lot of points for that performance from me.
I think she is hilarious!
She's a natural comedienne in interviews...it probably suits her better. But I LOVE her in Damages, she just makes Ellen so likable no matter what she is doing.
While I didn't like her in 'Get Him To The Greek', I thought she was fantastic in 'Bridesmaids'. Perhaps it's her tone of humor that fits better with the girl-on-girl fighting content. Between her and Melissa McCarthy, there were enough har-har from the supporting cast before you even add Wendi McLendon-Covey into the mix.
Mike: "Have you been with a Russian?" "No..." "So bossy."
I thought she was hilarious in Get Him To The Greek (I loved the Jackie Q music videos LOL). Besides that, I've only seen her in the movie Adam. I thought she was really good in it, and that the movie was underrated. I thought Hugh Dancy was very impressive as the main character.
I haven't seen much of Rose Byrne, but I LOVED her in Bridesmaids! I'll never forget her line from the trailer (and oddly absent from the movie) that she says at the first party: "Did you come from work?" She was so wonderfully condescending. I also loved the bit where she assures Kristen Wiig's character that yes, she's gorgeous even while crying.
Robert, nice post. You so have to see Get Him to the Greek. (The vid that JA posted is from that.) She's great and very funny. Liked her for years. Glad she's getting the exposure finally.
LOL... very true.... why is she always sad? Maybe her life is as miserable as mine
I LOVE Rose Byrne. And she was hilarious in Bridesmaids. I loved it all across the board. And if the Oscars are having 10 best pictures so they can fit in some more blockbuster/Hollywood fare...this should be in the conversation (like how The Hangover was). I hope it at least gets a Golden Globe Best Picture nomination. Wiig and Byrne too. The toast at the engagement party will be one of the year's best scenes.
Rose Byrne: Volpi Cup winner.
She was very good in "Bridesmaids". She's been very good in a lot of things, mostly when she doesn't have to be sad.
Like said before, watch 'Get Him To The Greek' and you won't think of her as sad anymore. haha she's hilarious!
