Birthday Man George Clooney

We probably shoulda done some celebrating but today was the big "5-0" day for one of the world's most justly beloved stars, George Clooney.

Today offered up 50 Reasons to Love Him and if we had time we'd list 50 more. But we've always enjoyed his betting with Nicole Kidman & Michelle Pfeiffer about his private life and the fact that he starred with both of those goddesses early in his film career (Lucky man). They each owe him $20,000 because they keep losing, the last winning bet that he'd still be childless at 50.

Our ten favorite George Clooney performances presented without comment.

  1. George Clooney
  2. "Ryan Bingham" Up in the Air
  3. "Michael Clayton" Michael Clayton
  4. "Everett" O Brother, Where Art Thou?
  5. "Danny Ocean"
  6. "Mr. Fox" Fantastic Mr. Fox
  7. "Archie Gates" Three Kings
  8. "Dr. Ross" E.R.
  9. "Seth Gecko" From Dusk Till Dawn
  10. "Sparky" South Park

Which are yours?

Definitely, definitely agree with Up in the Air being so high: he really made the film for me =)
Surprised though, no Syriana?

I won't do my Top 10. But "Up in the Air" is by far his best, with " O Brother, Where Art Thou?" a close, CLOSE second. I really hope he's not remembered for his Oscar-winning work in "Syriana".

I am a bonafide fan of Clooney in Michael Clayton, though I still don't "get" what's so great about him in Up in the Air.

Speaking of his movie with Michelle Pfeiffer, I love him in One Fine Day. I love both of them in One Fine Day. They're so charming. That said, he breaks my heart in Up In The Air. Something about the way his eyes still look sad when he smiles in that movie just tears me up.

Never saw One Fine Day -- one of Pfeiffer's last relevant starring vehicles; but his Kidman movie is horrible -- The Peacemaker has to be one of her worst performances along with the worst she's ever looked on film shy of Dead Calm -- she was so ugly with that hair -- I don't know what Cruise did to her during the course of their marriage but it did wonders for her looks and fashion sense -- damn you Keith Urban for bringing a goddess down to earth.

Craig, please write-up George Clooney's cousin Miguel Ferrer -- he's sexy and also a Robocop (1987) alumni.

/3rfu11's reasons to love George Clooney in 5
1. Big Fat Liberal
2. He's a Dark Handsome Man (see David Strathairn)
3. He's interested in making interesting movies even when they fail to entertain (see The Good German)
4. Three Kings (see punching Future David calling Lily Tomlin a cunt O Russell)
5. The Facts of Life

Love him in all these movies, but you just can't forget Out of Sight. (And Syriana, too. Wasn't the best, but deserved the Oscar).

What Batman and Robin was not his best?! :O

But seriously I loved him in Up in the Air, the Oceans series and One Fine Day.

And Happy Birthday to Mr. Clooney!!

I think my favourite is probably Miles Massey in Intolerable Cruelty- I think he's great in goofball mode. I also love him in Out of Sight and Three Kings. He's just so watchable- it's easy to see why he was so successful on tv.

I'm surprised at all the Up in the Air love though- I thought he was good in it but that film just irked me.

All of them. I mean, that list is good, some other list, also good.

We're like soul mates, with our birthdays being almost the same and all.

Deborah -- i bet you say that to all the Taureans ;)

TB -- i think they're both wonderful in ONE FINE DAY, too. One of those adult pairings that just so rare -- most romcoms seems to have some level of immaturity where the stars don't feel like too adults that could be in love. but it didn't quite make the list. the one i had to leave off for lack of space though was out of sight.

Michael Clayton by far, is one of the best male performaces of the las decade, hands down

My favorite will probably always be O Brother Where Art Thou. One Fine Day would come in second.

Up in the Air? Absolutely not... MC all the way. Now there's acting not just shameless showboating. God that movie sucked. I have high hopes for Clooney this year in THE DESCENDENTS. I really could see him getting a 2nd golden man, but DiCaprio is really hitting his "peak" and the Academy knows it.

Michael Clayton, Up in the Air and ER

You know my friend said that this year could repeat 2005 for Clooney where he got nominated for both directing effort and acting. This man is rocking.

My favourite Clooney role is Michael Clayton...but don't forget him as Fred Friendly in "Good Night, and Good Luck."

Solaris is my favorite (a definite love it/ hate it movie). Then Out of Sight, Intolerable Cruelty, and Michael Clayton.

May 8, 2011 | Unregistered Commenteradri

Out of Sight and Solaris.

May 8, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterArkaan

So late for this, ugh. And I love him too.

Out of Sight, Solaris, O Brother, Michael Clayton, Fantastic Mr. Fox and Three Kings are his best performances or movies he's been in. My favourite character or performance is probably Danny Ocean actually since it seems most like the best actual character he's done the best job playing, himself.

Echo the Up in the Air backlash. Don't see what's so amazing about his performance in that (he's good, sure) or the film in general. It seems like something Hal Ashby might've puked up 20 years ago. Or rather, a bad Hal Ashby homage by someone far too sure in their talent.

Jack Foley from Out of Sight would be my #1! It's when that deathly sexy movie star was BORN in the business.
