Attack of the 26 Foot Woman
A statue celebrating one of Marilyn Monroe's most famous film moments was unveiled in Chicago yesterday. Thanks to Michelle for the heads up. More photos here.
You know what this means: Film Experience readers in Chicago should immediately snap pics of themselves with Marilyn and send them in for our viewing pleasure. Do it! You know you want to. Do I have to offer prizes? If I have to, I will.
If you could erect a giant statue of a movie star in front of your home, who would it be?

Not doing it. This statue is right on my way to the biggest downtown movie theater, so I'm sure I'll have to pass it a million times, just like I did the previous, enormous statue of the American Gothic couple that stood there forever. But it just seems so... tacky?
Young Chevy Chase circa Caddyshack.
OT: This person's write-up on The Grifters is a must read.

This picture should be a strong candidate for one of those Caption this! contests. The covered head, the man down there.
I'll try.
If I've learned something from this internet celebtrity generation is to get your face covered in these....ehm, situations.
You know, although I personally think this is kinda cool, I found this a little disrespectful. You can't just erect a giant sculpture of a woman in front of people's home. I wish we lived in a world where everyone loves movies and Monroe and such, but we're not.Just read the comments on dailymail, the website where the pic's from, people are not that happy.
wow, that was poorly written. I'm sorry, English is not my first language.
I think that's so cool! But yeah, I guess not everyone would love it.
Ummm, hellllllllo, giant statue of Barbra Streisand in full FUNNY GIRL mode in my front yard. A dream, you say? I think not. :-)
All jokes aside, I think this is pretty cool though maybe the choice of costume a little unfortunate. I mean, it IS her most iconic image and all, but do we really want people walking underneath her skirt, looking up at her , ahm, private parts? That is some tribute.
I'm generally in favor of kitsch but this exists almost solely for tourist upskirt photo ops, and the wrapped-in-plastic look before they revealed the head was way icky. Monroe doesn't even have a particular connection to Chicago.
I'm going to second Nick and D on this one, but I do feel weirdly compelled to make a point of drifting out that way this week just to see, because What The Hell? And if a photo of the thing should happen to ensue, I won't *not* send it in.
So then, thinking this picture was a tribute to Magritte through another recent tribute in Broken Embraces was really thinking it too much, right?

Which took me to wonder what Almodóvar & Monroe could've done together have they been contemporaries... (The Seven Year Itch + What Have I Done to Deserve This? are totally complementary, in my mind at least)
/daydreaming.
Natalie Wood for the fantastic Edith Head gown in "Sex and the Single ..the white long gown with the slit up .up ... and away!
um, ok. Why Chicago? Don't get me wrong - I actually really love Chi-town, but isn't this a classic NYC moment?
