Ask Nathaniel...

It's Q&A time again. You be asking. I be answering. At least some of the questions. Don't try any of those greedy five part questions either ;) Go!

Feel free to rake me over the coals.

Why did it take me YEARS to get around to seeing Manhattan? Easily now my #2 favorite Woody film behind Husbands and Wives!

August 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterCity_Of_Lights

Why.. WHY... don't you like Felicity's Huffman performance in Transamerica? I know she's not an actress with good roles, but THAT performance was outstanding!

August 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterLaura M

Which younger actor would you cast to play which older screen myth in a biopic? and why (not only because of physical appearance, hopefully...)? Ditto, for actresses! :)

August 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterCarlos

What are you thoughts on Walter Salles? He directed two of my favorite movies of all time (Motorcycle Diaries and Central Station). I know you love Fernanda Montenegro in that, but I'm not sure if you like just her performance or the whole film.

Have any particular films actually changed something about you or your life, or noticeably altered the way you think about something?

August 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterDean

Do you think DiCaprio and Winslet give good performances in 'Titanic'?

August 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterTyler

Two actresses who never same to get the good roles anymore are Angela Bassett and Judy Davis maybe for a supporting role but nothing of their true talents why do you think they are forced to play second fittle and not a leading role?

August 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterLester

SHIT. I had an AWESOME question that was something related to your personal opinion/view on some movie or something that I thought of recently and didn't think I'd forget...wellll, I did..

Oh well. :(

What should Mo'Nique do next (film-wise)? Post Oscar-win, she can't really go back to Soul Plane, but there also aren't Precious-like opportunities lying around everywhere. I guess if anyone can go back to something like Soul Plane after Mary Jones, it would be Mo'Nique, but still...why? Anyway, what do you think she should do next?

Another Q, only if you want:

Most think that had Grey Gardens been a theatrical film, Drew would've been Oscar nominated...what should she do next to get a little Oscar attention? I'm a diehard Drew fan (hard to shake something you've loved since you were little) and would love for her to keep her family's honor up with the Oscars.

Lester's question inspired this question...which actors have hit a wall creatively and have pretty much shown us all that they can do?

August 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterSoSueMe

BTW - I'm talking about revered and lauded actors.

August 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterSoSueMe

Do you really believe that The Artist will be a major Oscar contender? If yes, why?

August 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterVortep

This weekend I finally watch 'Temple Grandin', and I wondered if the movie (or its stars) would have any chance if it had a teatrical release. So, I would like to know about opinion about this HBO movies, like Temple Grandin, You Don't Know Jack, Grey Gardens, Cinema Verite... would any actor have a chance to be at least nominated to the Oscar?

August 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterLouis

Yes, why The Artist? It is supposed to be a crowdpleaser, bit it's still silent, black and white and foreign.

August 21, 2011 | Unregistered Commentercal roth

I started wondering about what will Sofia Coppola will do next. I found some rumours about a possible adaptation of "Goldengrove" between her next projects, but according to IMDb there's nothing comming for her right now....

What kind of project do you think Miss Coppola should take next? Would you cast any of her preivous movies' stars (Scarlett, Kirsten or Elle)?

August 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterEd

Last year there were a lot of Hollywood faces among Tony Award nominees and Tony Award winners, like Denzel Washington, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Viola Davis, Scarlett Johansson, Jude Law, Liev Schreiber, Christopher Walken, Alfred Molina or Laura Linney, with the first four taking a Tony home and the same happened this year with Frances McDormand, Al Pacino or Vanessa Redgrave, with the first one winning.

Some of them never got nominated and others don't see a nomination a long time ago, so do you think these theater world recognitions make big impacts in Hollywood stars movie career by putting their names under the AMPAS radar?

August 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterEd

IF Winona Ryder was not burned out at the time and did The Godfather III, do you think the movie would have been better with her?

Cast other actresses around the same age of Streep in her roles from1996 till today. That´s all

August 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterManuel

Let's see....

1. You can erase your memories Eternal Sunshine style for one movie and see it over again for the first time. Which movie do you choose?

2. If you could choose one actor to get a Quentin Tarantino career rebirth a la Travolta or Forster who would it be?

3. Knock one film off the AFI Top 100 Funniest Films and replace it with another.

4. When you finally see Fellini's Nights of Cabiria and realize that all the years spent having not seen it have been wasted and that you will never get them back how do you plan to live with yourself?

August 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMichael C

Obviously, take your pick of questions. I didn't intend to be greedy.

August 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMichael C

Why do you dislike Renee Zellweger and Helen Hunt so much?

August 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMike

I have but two questions - pick your favorite or neither! :)

1. If you could pick any director to adapt the work of any author, which two would you choose?

2. Which of the cast members of Modern Family do you think has the best chance of going on to win an Oscar?

August 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterRobert

Do you think Michelle Pfeiffer and Julianne Moore will ever win an Oscar? Who is the most overdue actress still living?

August 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJoe

What is your reading on the Marion Cotillard love meter from 1 to 10?

August 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJose

What one hit wonder acting nominee-preferably over twenty years since their flash in the pan nomination-do you wish would pull a Richard Farnsworth and score a comeback nomination?

August 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJohn T

When I get to New York in November, can we have coffee and see a show and be great, big bitches together? :)

August 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterBeau

What role would you like Kate Winslet do on Broadway in an attempt to get the Tony and thus EGOT? - come on, we all know she's getting the Emmy

August 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterLeigh

If you were given the chance to... Would you take any part from Meryl Strrep (in wich you think she was miscast) and cast another actress? If so, wich role/film?

August 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterFernando Moss

What do you think Seth Green's sexiest role has been so far?

August 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommentersethGassfan

Gus Van Sant is remaking Rear Window (the way he did Psycho).
Recast the roles of James Stewart, Grace Kelly and Thelma Ritter.

August 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJames T

Is One Day really a bad movie? I just saw it and thought it and Anne were great. But with 27% on Rotten Tomatoes apparently I'm completely wrong . . .

August 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJonn

How do you feel about acclaimed actresses who seemingly play themselves or variations of the same character in every film? I'm thinking of, in particular, Mary-Louise Parker and Zooey Deschanel, among other actresses whose overall versatility leaves something to be desired. Do you think they are deserving of accolades for their overall body of works when compared to say an actress like Kate Winslet or Julianne Moore (essentially, the three leads of THE HOURS).

August 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMatthew

Is there any film where you don’t like or get it at first, but then on second viewing you have fond feeling or even love it?

Example, I watched The Hours, Half Nelson, and There Will Be Blood and thought they were long, slow paced, and I didn’t get it but then I watched them again and honestly I love them now.

August 22, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMikhael

And ditto Michael C: Nights of Cabiria is a beautiful treasure of love and life. Please see it as soon as humanly possible.

August 22, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterBeau

Because it was so interesting, I'm going to copycat the "Julianne Pfeiffer" question from last time and ask you to cast Annette Bening in a Catherine Keener role and vice versa.

August 22, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAlex

Now Almodóvar has an international project in English, which three American/British actresses do you think fit most into his world? I'll go with Marisa Tomei.

August 22, 2011 | Unregistered Commenteriggy

Pick a country to live in besides America, but base your reasons only on movies (the country's slate or movie(s)' depictions of the country).

August 22, 2011 | Unregistered Commenterkin

Oh my! I'd like to answer some of these questions myself... very good work guys!

Now, my turn: Nat, who would you cast in the (please, please, if there is a god, make it true) film version of the musical Grey Gardens?

Ps. I still can't recover from reading you HAVEN'T seen Nights of Cabiria!!!!! I just called the actressexual police, this is a crime!
