Ask Nathaniel...

I've had allergies or a cold or something all week so i'm slooooow with the writings and the thinkings and the typings and the abilities to do sentence endings due to my whiny hypochondria uncomfortableness. Drive is hard to write about without effusive drooling y'all... and drooling is uncomfortable when you have a sore throat unless your drool is made of chamomile tea.

We haven't done one of these Q&As in a while so here goes. You ask the questions, I choose 10 or so to answer on Monday or Tuesday. (No cheating with multi-parters or questions that would require encyclopedic volumes to answer like "name the 100 fiercest hair whips in the movies"). Ready. Set. Go....

A large number of filmmakers (Crowe, Payne) seem to be back after a bit of a hiatus. What director whose been away for awhile would you most like to see again?

Do you think that Marti Noxon and the new writing staff will actually be able to redirect/save Glee from the uneven mess of a sophomore slump it took during season 2? I am holding onto hope but am extremely worried that the damage may be irreversible...

What's that? Someone in Hollywood thinks it'd be a great idea to remake ALL ABOUT EVE? Eh... The good news? You get to cast it, from Margo and Eve right down to the most famous graduate of the Copacabana School of Dramatic Art! Same general plot, settings, time periods, etc.

This is kinda inspired by the more frequent Madonna posts as of late here on The Film Experience, and I didn't seem to find some extended thoughts on the subject of my question.

What are your thoughts on Madonna's performance in Evita, both in acting and her vocal prowess of the musical material? Oscar Worthy?

Which are your favorite movies about your three favorite topics outside cinema. Example: I love dancing, and one of my favorite movie about it is Billy Elliot... ok, your turn! :)

Who/what are you most rooting for to win an Emmy this Sunday? :)

What's up with Warrior/Contagion and Oscar - do they have a shot at any nominations?

Which member of the "Glee" cast has the best shot at a career in the movies?

Seeing Paul Rudd in the post below, I thought he hasn't had the right vehicle for his comedic talent, so I think someone should write a comedy for him and Amy Poehler. I also think Emma Stone and Anna Faris should have their Romy & Michelle.
So, this is an easy question, who of those mentioned above (or any other one that comes to your mind) could not only pull off but maybe outdo classic movie stars in a screwball comedy?

A second more difficult question, could you find some things in common between Ewan McGregor and Montgomery Clift?

And finally a third question, not for yourself but for your correspondents and collaborators, if I may. You guys see a lot of movies, at film festivals, at the gym or anywhere. I guess some of them are pretty terrible, but some of them are at least decent. How do you feel when you see nobody else seems to have seen them because they get no distribution or a lousy one? BTW, congratulations to all.

Sorry to hear about the health issues, injured foot here that has me on clutches if it's any consolation. :)

*crutches, lol.

Between Tilda Swinton, Nicole Kidman and Kate Winslet, who would say, looking at her respective filmographies, is the biggest risk-taker?

I know Tilda Swinton is probably the obvious answer, but if we look at the 2000-2005 period of Kidman or the 1997-2004 period of Kate Winslet, one does have to wonder.

And another question:

Geena Davis, Kathleen Turner, Jessica Lange. If you could, which one of these Academy Award-nominated movie stars would you pick to revive her career (or who do you think needs it the most)?

With the awesome 'Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy' hitting theaters... what group of actresses would you cast for an all-diva style spy thriller???

September 16, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterCarlos

I guess you couldn't anwser my last question, but how would you "cast this" in a Monty Clift, Elizabeth Taylor and Shelley Winters in their roles in "A Place in the Sun" sorry I such bad with names lol thanks :-)

I'm filming my senior broadcasting project this semester and it will include mainly just two people talking, as they are my favorite types of movies, i.e.- Before Sunrise, Before Sunset. What do you believe are the best dialogue oriented films you've seen or read about? What makes the dialogue particularly great and vital to the film?

September 16, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAdam

I would like to know about which movies did your opinion changed the most after (several) rewatch(es). Especially from average to great/masterpiece.
I unwillingly concentrate during the first view on acting, dialogue and cinematography. But only in a second run i can really appreciate great work in the art direction/music/editing. So movies which are outstanding in the last-named categories often get a better grade the second time and vice versa for acting-festivals.

who, in your opinion, are the most over-rated actors and actresses in today's 'hollywood?'

September 16, 2011 | Unregistered Commenterbrandz

What's one book you've read recently (or not so recently) that you really would like to see made into a movie?

-Which of those violence that affect you the most? CAF (cool as fuck) violence from Quentin
Tarantino, realism off-screen violence in Michael Haneke's or extreme graphic violence in Takashi Miike? (you can have other choices).

September 16, 2011 | Unregistered Commentertombeet

How do you think Angelina Jolie could revitalize her career to get back to her glory days of giving great performance like Gia/Girl, Interrupted?

September 16, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterBia

Why do you think Kate Winslet's performances post 'Sunshine'? Most people seem to think that they've taken a dip in quality. Do you agree?

Also, you're allowed to change the results of 5 Film Bitch Awards categories (you can change both nominees and winners). What changes would you make?

September 16, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterSomeone

The Iron Lady will tank and Meryl Streep won't get nominated. Shooocker! In her misery, she calls you and invites you to come over her place. What do you do to comfort her:
a) start singing ABBA songs to her, with crazy jumps and splits.
b) take her shopping to fashionable New York stores (but you will have the last say on what she can buy.)
c) tell her to suck it up and get working with ____________ (name of auteur) asap. (You can even suggest a role for her.)

Who do you think Lars will cast in Nymphomaniac? Who is the perfect actress to explore their sexuality all the way through their 50s?

September 16, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterZach

Do you miss Winona Ryder? And what are your hopes for her future career? Do you think she still has what it takes to maybe even have an 'Oscar' comeback?

September 16, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterSteven

If all Viggo Mortensen's characters got in a fight who do you think would win?

There are many young ladies under 21 that are being hailed/have been hailed as the next big thing (Jennifer Lawrence, Hailee Steinfeld, Elle Fanning, Mia Wasikowska, Abigail Breslin, Saoirse Ronan). Are there any male equivalent that was born after 1990?

September 17, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterRyan T.

What are your top five Kate Winslet performances?
