Complete the (Shocker) Sentence...

"Everyone will be surprised when ____________ wins the ________ Oscar on Sunday except for me. He/she/they'll win because ____________________________."

Pssst
Final Oscar Predictions are coming tonight. I apologize for the delay. I didn't want to leave it till the weekend but it's been a long week. Do you read the site on the weekend or are you more of a weekday at work type? Wait, maybe you shouldn't admit that if your boss also reads.

Everyone will be surprised when Berenice Bejo wins the Best Supporting Actress Oscar on Sunday except for me. She'll win because she was nominated as a lead at the BAFTA's, and it's likely she would have won there if she'd been nominated in the supporting category, and BAFTA has been a more accurate predictor of this category than even the SAG has. Plus, she's in the Best Picture frontrunner, and The Help didn't get as much overall love from the Academy as many were expecting, which must surely put the theory of it winning two acting awards in a somewhat vulnerable position.

Everyone will be surprised when MICHELLE WILLIAMS wins the BEST ACTRESS Oscar on Sunday except for me. He/she/they'll win because SHE'S HOT (CATERING TO THOSE OLD WHITE MEN), SHE ALMOST GETS NAKED AND SHE WILL BENEFIT FROM DAVIS-STREEP SPLIT VOTES.

Everyone will be surprised when In Darkness wins the Foreign Film Oscar on Sunday except for me. They'll win because the film is Polish, about the Holocaust, and A Separation isn't traditional enough to take the trophy."

when meryl streep's name is announced by colin firth!!!!!

"Everyone will be surprised when Brad Pitt wins the best actor Oscar on Sunday except for me. He/she/they'll win because everyone will remember he's the Hollywood golden boy and his performance was great and deserving." Probably wishful thinking on my part but with this performance and him being him I can't believe he doesn't have it sewn up.

Everyone will be surprised when Melissa McCarthy wins the Best Supporting Actress Oscar on Sunday except for me. She'll win because of the Scorsese bit at the SAGs.

February 24, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterVal

Everyone will be surprised when "Bridesmaids" wins the original screenplay Oscar on Sunday except for me. It will win because I said so, and I'm pretty awesome.

Sidebar: I read The Film Experience primarily at work because I'm too cheap to pay for the internet at home, and reading things on my DROID X sometimes makes my eyes cross.

"Everyone will be surprised when GLENN CLOSE wins the BEST ACTRESS Oscar on Sunday except for me. He/SHE/they'LL win because IT'S HER SIXTH NOMINATION AND THE ACADEMY WON'T WANT HER TO JOIN THE BIGGEST LOSERS CLUB OF DEBORAH KERR AND THELMA RITTER."

I'm not expecting that, but for some odd reason, it wouldn't surprise me. Max von Sydow's more likely for the Supporting Actor trophy, though, and that upset wouldn't shock me at all.

Everyone will be surprised when HARRY POTTER wins AT LEAST ONE Oscar on Sunday except for me. They'll win BECAUSE IT'LL BE A WAY TO HONOR THE SERIES FOR ITS ONE AND ONLY TIME.

February 24, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterRyan T.

Everyone will be surprised when 'Chico & Rita' wins the Best Animated Picture Oscar on Sunday except for me. It'll win because I've been seen a lot of 'should win' tags next to its title in several pols (Nathaniel's included), it's getting loads of last-minute buzz and because I genuinely believe it deserves it. Rock on, Spain! :)

"Everyone will be surprised when Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy wins the Adapted Screenplay Oscar on Sunday except for me. It'll win because it's written by a husband and wife team and the wife is dead."

Sorry it had to be so blunt.

"Everyone will be surprised when MONEYBALL wins the ADAPTED SCREENPLAY Oscar on Sunday except for me. It'll win because it's clearly the best of the nominees."

February 24, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterTerence

Everyone will be surprise when Charlize Theron wins the Best Actress Oscar on Sunday except for me. She deserve the win because:

A-It`s one of the most Fearless Performance by an Actress EVER.
B-Not only did the Academy Snub Her, but they had the nerve to nominate that Tatoo Girl (REALLY ACADEMY MEMBER...THAT GIRL?) instead
C-This is MY fantasy post & I`ll write (AND abuse capital letters) whatever I want!

Everyone will be surprised when Anonymous wins the Costume Design Oscar on Sunday except for me. He/she/they'll win because duh, royalty porn trumps even best picture noms in that category.

February 24, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterDean

Everyone will be surprised when Janet McTeer wins the Supporting Actress Oscar on Sunday except for me. She win because she's a former Best Actress nominee and Albert Nobbs will take makeup.

February 24, 2012 | Unregistered Commenter/3rtfull

Everyone will be surprised when Terrence Malick wins the Directing Oscar on Sunday except for me. He'll win because Hazanavicius should NOT win for what could be a fluke, and the Academy would just love to give the award to an autuer like Malick.

Funny short story about the Oscars: R.I.P. Oscar – A Hollywood Satire by Andie Heid
(includes: The Oscar Games, Movie Star Wars, Catwoman Rises, Battle of the Snow Whites, The Twilight Saga continues…)

Malick is gonna win director, I feel that too!

"Everyone will be surprised when HARRY POTTER wins the VISUAL EFFECTS Oscar on Sunday except for me. GOLDEN COMPASS won over TRANSFORMERS.(the obvious choice like Rise of The Planet of The Apes)".Golden Compass was also nominated for Art Direction like Harry Potter. And won the BAFTA. If Harry doesn't win, Hugo will.

I'm sorry I can't remember it's name, but the French Canadian film will win Foreign Language over A Separation because it's about sappy things, not real life.

"Everyone will be surprised when _Nick Nolte___________ wins the ___Best Supporting ACtor_____ Oscar on Sunday except for me. He/she/they'll win because __Plummer and Von Sydow will 'split votes' and Nolte will win a la his Affliction co-star Coburn: he's due, he's playing himself, and it can be kind-of considered a comeback role.__________________________."

February 24, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterbarry, milwaukee

McTeer, because she gave a great performance, and Spencer wasn't that great.

February 24, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterJoe

... When A Separation wins Best Original Screenplay

February 24, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterRJ

Jessica Chastain.

Because no one has a year like that. And Supporting Actress is where surprises happen.

February 24, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterBeau

Everyone will be surprised when ARIANNE PHILLIPS wins the BEST COSTUME DESIGN Oscar on Sunday except for me. She win because she's incredibly talented, respected, and the film is centered on it' costumes, and it has a ton of them--all flawless."

February 24, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterPHIL

Everyone will be surprised when The Artist wins Best Picture on Sunday except for me. It'll win because it has swept the precurors and appeals to a wide range of Academy voters.

Wait, I'm doing it wrong, am I?

February 24, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterRax

Everyone will be surprised when Bérénice Bejo wins the Best Supporting Actress Oscar on Sunday except for me. She'll win because The Artist sweeps and I feel she's the Tilda of the year. I saw them the same way, on Oscar weekend and at the end of both films I had a strange feeling.

February 24, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterdinasztie

Everyone will be surprised when Gary Oldman wins for Best Actor Oscar on Sunday night except for me. He'll win because the Brits really love them some Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and giving it only one measly Adapted Screenplay Oscar will not satisfy them. Also, Clooney and Dujardin may very will split voters, letting Pitt or Oldman get in.

February 24, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterRobert G

1. Clooney & Streep
2. Actor & Actress
3. The Oscars are going in an old school/classy direction, and those two know how to give good speeches. The SAGs were the wake-up call to who the race is really between, and so the Pitt/Williams/Close blocks will go to Clooney and Streep.

February 24, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterMarsha Mason

"Everyone will be surprised when HARRY POTTER wins the VISUAL EFFECTS Oscar on Sunday except for me (and Ryan T. above). He/she/they'll win because everyone's seen the films, they're much loved and have made a ton of money and they've never been rewarded. (That, plus the fact that Rise of the Apes is a terrible movie, Andy Serkis/mo-cap notwithstanding.)"

February 24, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSan FranCinema

And one more....

"Everyone will be surprised when MARTIN SCORCESE wins the BEST DIRECTING Oscar on Sunday except for me. He'll win because love for The Artist only goes so deep, because the Academy would like to reward Scorcese for something better than The Departed, and because Hugo, though not perfect, is ambitious and masterful filmmaking."

February 24, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSan FranCinema

This is the only one I've been thinking of recently:

Everyone will be surprised when Brad Pitt wins the Best Actor Oscar on Sunday except for me. He'll win because Jean Dujardin and George Clooney will split votes as the frontrunners, making Brad come out on top.

...Although that's probably just wishful thinking because Gary Oldman's is probably getting a good amount of the votes that aren't going to George or Jean too.

February 24, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterPhilip

Everyone will be surprised when MERYL STREEP wins the Oscar on Sunday but me. She'll win because she clearly gives the best and most complete performance of the nominees in the Best Lead Actress category. Never mind that she is an international icon, her way, way overdue status and her humble nature and great sense of humor.

February 24, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterbrandz

Everyone will be surprised when Terrance Malick wins the Best Director Oscar on Sunday except for me. He'll win because he's artsy fartsy and cray-cray.

February 24, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterRobert

Everyone will be surprised when REAL IN RIO wins the BEST ORIGINAL SONG Oscar on Sunday except for me. It'll win because the Best Song category almost never goes for straight laughs. Although I would love for Bret McKenzie to win (I do love "Man or Muppet" quite a lot), the song feels a hell of a lot more jokey and slight than what they ever go for.

February 24, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterW

Everyone will be surprised when nothing on Oscar night is all that surprising, all the wins coming from the frontrunner or the most likely spoiler. This will happen because the Academy just has not been that surprising in its results during the past three or four years.

February 24, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterEvan

By the way, I really hate the term "vote splitting" in relation to the Oscars. It implies that two contenders are similar and another dissimilar one beats them in the polling because he/she is the sole representative of a group of voters.

I could see how such a scenario might occur in the Oscars (the Plummer/Von Sydow "Career Award" scenario, for instance, though I definitely don't think it will happen). However, more often than not, proponents of these theories just name the two favorites and then suggest a third candidate as the one who "will win" without having any hypothesis for why the first two would be competing for the same votes. #PersonalPetPeeve

February 24, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterEvan

"Everyone will be surprised when Melissa McCarthy wins the Best Supporting Actress Oscar on Sunday except for me. He/she/they'll win because everyone seems to love her. They know they will get an amazing acceptance speech and she's already surprised us all when she won the Emmy against some pretty big heavy weights - and noone begrudged her win!"

February 24, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterfilmboymichael

Brad Pitt (though even I will still be surprised)... because of the steak eaters, to be honest.

February 24, 2012 | Unregistered Commentereurocheese

Everyone will be surprised when SERGIO MENDES wins the ORIGINAL SONG Oscar on Sunday except for me. He'll win because he's more of a legend to Hollywood voters than the Muppets, he's been campaigning for it, and I suspect the deafening echo chamber that is the internet fooled many of us into assuming Oscar voters liked the Muppets Movie more than they did.

February 25, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSteve G

um btw, i love evan.

February 25, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterPHIL

Jessica Chastain.

Because of her year. Because they will think voting for Viola is enough (and no, I can't think of a better way to word that). And because she gave a much better performance, and that really should count for something.
