Box Office, Happy Easter Nostalgia

Did you end up moviegoing this weekend? I actually stayed home. Quiet weekend which is sometimes what ya need. The Hunger Games continues to devour the nation's entertainment budget with a bigger third weekend than most films can muster on their first. Otherwise it was a nostalgia weekend, especially for the 27-34 year-old set with 1999's American Pie cast reunited and the Titanic (1997) rerelease.

If you're part of that demo, were you feeling the nostalgia? Don't lie. You've quoted "one time at band camp..." before.

TOP TEN (Estimates)
01 THE HUNGER GAMES  $33.5 (cum $302.8) Reviewed
02 AMERICAN REUNION  $21.5 new in wide release
03 TITANIC 3D  $17.3 rerelease (cum. $25.7)
04 WRATH OF THE TITANS $15 (cum. $58.8)
05 MIRROR MIRROR  $11  (cum $36.4) Reviewed
06 21 JUMP STREET  $10.2 (cum. $109.5) Reviewed
07 THE LORAX  $5 (cum. $198.2)
08 SALMON FISHING IN THE YEMEN $.9 (cum. $4.6)
09 JOHN CARTER  $.8 (cum. $67.9) Reviewed
10 SAFE HOUSE $.5 (cum. $124.7)

The cast of Damsels in Distress

Talking Points
Damsels in Distress, Whit Stillman's long awaited return debuted in limited release with a decent $16,000 per screen average on 4 screens.
21 Jump Street is rapidly approaching the impressive gross of The Vow. So, go Chan.
• Despite working so hard for media attention Bully only added one screen this weekend. Bizarre.

I feel sorry for Julia Roberts. Last week there was a Julia double feature weekend of Sleeping with the Enemy and Dying Young. Dying Young being directed by one of the shittiest Hollywood hacks of all time—oh my God! Although, to Roberts' credit its watchable just to look at her when she was young and the whole world cared. I understand what Hepburn saw in her. It's the very thing one can't be taught they simply own it as a birthright.

I saw Wuthering Heights directed by Andrea Arnold. Bleak, sensual, very interesting.

Had the second weekend of auditions for my short film Friday and Saturday but I just came from seeing "American Wedding". It wasn't as good as the first three - and you can feel the desperation at times - but I enjoyed it. As for Titanic, I might be seeing it Tuesday.

Mirror, mirror.

I don't kinow what to make of Lily Collins and her eyebrows. I liked to see Roberts having fun, but I'd have liked to see her as an uncontrollably over the top villain just like Close as Cruella. Armie Hammer is incredibly ***** hot, but he may easily fall into the Brendan Fraser spot if he doesn't chose his projects right.

And no, after this movie I don't think I can see another Snow White movie. I'm most curious to see The Cold Day of Light, because of Sigourney Weaver and because it's set in Madrid. As a madrileño, if there's something remarkable about this city is the light, which is anything but cold. So, I'm curious to see how the cinematography can make the light of Madrid be cold.

Beat the studio system and watched Titanic on Blu-Ray with a glass of wine and casual contempt for the steerage passengers.

Saw the Titanic and it was like falling in love with Kate and Leo again. I'll probably see American Reunion next weekend or something.

I saw The Raid. I did not enjoy it. The Internet Movie Geek Hype Machine strikes again!

Nice information, valuable and excellent design, as share good stuff with good ideas and concepts, lots of great information and inspiration, both of which we all need, thanks for all the enthusiasm to offer such helpful information here.
certainly like your web-site however you need to test the spelling on several of your posts. Many of them are rife with spelling problems and I in finding it very troublesome to tell the truth however I will definitely come back again.
After looking at you blog, I was thinking the articles you write is a plus! I will be very much like your articles. I bookmarked your site! I trust you'll behave better any further.
It is very interesting topic you've written here..The truth I'm not related to this, but I think is a good opportunity to learn more about, And as well talk about a different topic to which I used to talk with others. Titanic and it was like falling in love with Kate and Leo again

Nat, you're msising Wallis (Beasts of a Southern Wild), Cruz (Twice Born), and Winstead (Smashed) in your BA list. There's also Riseborough (Shadow Dancer) but she got little attention in comparison to Hunt and Wallis and to a lesser extent Winstead at Sundance.

Then there's also Johansson (Under the Skin) and Leo (Francine), but neither of these look very likely.
