COMMENT(s) DU JOUR
Amy Adams for Janis Joplin

"It's baffling to me that Amy Adams will potentially have as many nominations as Blanchett, Winslet, Maggie Smith, Vanessa Redgrave, Thelma Ritter, Deborah Kerr, Sissy Spacek, and Glenn Close. This is weird, right?" -Aaron

"What is happening with Nina Arianda's Janis film with Sean Durkin? It's still listed as "announced" on her IMDB. Are we to assumed that it is a lost cause?" -Ryan

It's OK honey. Now you make awesome Funny or Die skits. It all works out for the best.

Full disclosure: I kind of liked Aeon Flux. It's was a silly sci-fi movie with slick visuals. Theron was good in it. The problem is that no adaptation could ever cut through the convoluted logic of the animated series unless they just cut clips of episodes together and added transition voice overs.

But it's ok. Now she does amazing films like Young Adult and that makes it all better.

Not that Charlize isn't respected. Not that Charlize doesn't have a lot of love from the world. However, she's still underrated as an actress.

In fairness, it's not like Monster was a better movie.

Aeon Flux!

My abiding memory from that film is Pete Postlethwaite's hilarious chrysalis outfit. I did like Charlize being all balletic though. Can she do a good film where she's flying around being graceful? Like Maggie Cheung in Hero or something.

And now I followed up Young Adult with a screeching, over-the-top Evil Queen.

More like, "Remembered those five years or so I followed up my Oscar with equally uninteresting performances and films, one of which I was even Oscar-nominated for?" Thank god for this resurgence. I'd gladly take a batshit crazy Evil Queen over Josie Aimes any day.

I'm not going to lie. For awhile I thought Charlize Theron was going to fade back into a non-essential actress because it felt like she was in a string of endless flops after her Oscar. Her career has been so amazing in the past couple years, however.
