My favorite evil witch is Delores Umbridge because Imelda Staunton gives a performance equal to Vera Drake . My favorite use of dark magic in a movie is when Saruman builds an army of tens of thousands and gives us the best of the three Lord of the Rings films .

My favorite fairytale princess is Belle though I wish I could find a prince that looked like the Beast post-transformation .

How irrestible.

My favorite evil witches are Bette Midler in Hocus Pocus and Anjelica Huston in The Witches because they create enough empathy for a scary push-pull and make me understand that are inexorable.

My favorite use of dark magic is the reanimation of Goran in Practical Magic because it gives narrative drive to three fabulous sets of witch sisters. Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman, so sexy and funny together. Diane Wiest and Stockard Channing, as the too knowing aunts that you wished belonged to you, and the sweet little witch sisters in training, including Rachel Evan Wood.

I also like when Veronica Lake's dad slips the hapless Frederick March a love potion in I Married a Witch. And when Kim Novak starts crooning to her cat Pyewacket in Bell, Book, and Candle, I find myself becoming drowsy and falling, falling...

My favorite princess is Amy Adams as Giselle in Enchanted, although I wish she had gotten more credit for it, and I wish that Idina Menzel had gotten a lot more work from it. I also like Marie Dea in Les Visiteurs du Soir, for her tough stance towards the Devil and her utter commitment to true love.

My favorite fairy-tale princess is also Belle (there really should be a group, "Gays for Belle"). She's into culture and books and is quite obviously the Disney princess most likely to be interested in the contents of this blog.

My favorite evil witch is Bellatrix Lestrange because of her back story with Neville's parents. My favorite use of dark magic in a movie is when Maleficent curses the baby princess Aurora.

My favorite fairytale princess is Belle (she counts, right?) though I wish the Beast had been *a little bit* more handsome when the curse was lifted (he always looked a little weird to me).

My favorite evil witches are Anjelica Huston in Witches and Michelle Pfeiffer in Stardust (yes, I can not choose between these two; and I would add also Glenn Close in nearly everything she does, although she is never really a witch) because they are iconic, scary, glamurous and are clearly enjoying it. My favorite use of dark magic in a movie is when Ursula steals Ariel's voice in The Little Mermaid.

If we're sticking with ACTUAL witches, not witches like Meryl in Prada, I'll go with Glenda from Wicked because she is truly beautiful while truly ugly, then transforms into one of the most interesting female characters out there. Dark magic in a movie - the Joker's "magic trick" at the beginning of The Dark Knight. If that's not dark magic, I don't know what is.

Fairy tale princess? Giselle's a great choice, but Belle wins. A beauty but a funny girl. I wish, even though Gaston (sp?) made for some great musical fodder, we had a villain to match Belle's sparkle. Perhaps a book-burning shrew who captured kids by destroying their imaginations.

Favorite evil witch - probably Bette Midler in Hocus Pocus. Winifred. She was evil but in a comical way and it was a perfect showcase of her amazing talent.

Favorite use of magic - not sure.

Favorite fairytale princess - Mulan counts as fairytale right? Or Pocahontas. She's awesome and gorgeous too. Or Anastasia because she never gets chosen for anything since she's not a Disney princess, but that movie is just too damn good.

My favorite evil witch is Elle Driver a.k.a. California Mountain Snake because she's fabulous. My favorite use of dark magic in a movie is when Mavis Gary tries to seduce Buddy in Young Adult via boatloads of alcohol~

My favorite fairytale princess is Jo Stockton in Funny Face though I wish there were even MORE costume changes in that movie~

My favorite evil witch is Helen Mirren's Morgana in "Excalibur". My favorite use of dark magic is the scene in "The Witches of Eastwick" when Veronica Cartwright vomits up a deluge of cherry pits until she eventually slips on them, and falls downstairs breaking her leg.

My favorite fairytale princess is Deanna Durbin as Constance Harding in "First Love", which is basically a riff on Cinderella. So, yeah. Cinderella.Though I wish it was I who lost my transparent Converse hightop running down the stairs of the club, but only to be sought out later by a handsome Go-Go dancer. Wait. Isn't that the plot of "Trick"?

My favorite evil witch is an obvious one - the wicked witch of the west, from the classic Wizard of Oz movie. Though Anjelica Houston from Witches is a good choice as well - oh how I loved that movie when I was a kid.

My favorite use of dark magic in a movie is...I wish I could more easily recall good examples off the top of my head. Nothing's coming to me.

My favorite fairytale princess is...I guess Sleeping Beauty, if only for her color-changing dress, though I wish I could think of a fairytale princess that I really cared about.

My favorite evil witch is Angelique (Lara Parker) in the original Dark Shadows because she is (almost) pure evil and she has Bette Davis eyes.

My favorite use of dark magic in a movie is right before Madeline Ashton (Meryl Streep) says, "NOW a warning?" in Death Becomes Her.
