TGIF: What's Your Favourite Award Presentation?

Glenn here. It's Friday, which for a lot of people means the weekend. If, like me, you don't work a traditional 9 to 5 job then it means nothing at all. Except, of course, it becomes socially acceptable to be up until 4am watching movies. I have an OFCS ballot that is incomplete and I've only got 30 hours to watch all the contenders!

Of course, I'll never actually get to watch them if I spend my time continuously watching clips from award shows, which is something that inevitably happens during the season. It's a sickness, I swear. Inspired by yesterday's Golden Globe nominations and watching Kristen Wiig and Will Ferrell present musical/comedy actress at this year's award show for about the 100th time. Apropos of it being the end of the week, here are some of my favourites, but how about yours?

Has to be when the Divine Miss M presenting Best Song at the Oscars in 1982." Endless Love", from that movie that we thought would never end." RISING to the occasion.. a classic.

Wiig and Ferrell (whom I usually don't like, Ferrell I mean) were really funny. that was great. but Emma Stone was so annoying. one of my favorite presentations was the one by Felicity Huffman and William H. Macy at Golden Globes few years ago.

I always remember Tina Fey and Steve Martin presenting the screenplay awards at the Oscars honouring the films of 2008. Really, any time Tina Fey presents. Or Amy Poehler or Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

But Kristen and Will were hilarious!

Wiig and Ferrell were hilarious.

Let me add Meryl and Lily Tomlin presenting the Honorary Oscar to Robert Altman.

I like weird combinations, like when Barbra Streisand gave the Best Song Oscar to Eminem
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=klUAGK9Z-dg), who couldn't be bothered to attend. Or little Anna Paquin gave the Best Supporting Actor to Martin Landau (http://youtu.be/pc5uF1I1eNk).

Peggy: Meryl and Lily for Altman is my favorite awards moment of all time. It was perfect, and I watch it all the time.

My favorite was a serious moment at the Oscars the year of Schindler's list (I think). The live doc winner was also about the holocaust and the director brought one of his subjects on stage who spoke and outlasted the music when they tried to play her off. Her very moving and articulate speech ended with the line "....the joy of a boring evening at home."

Outside of that......Tina and Amy were terrific last year and who can forget Christine Laiti and the toilet paper.

Camryn Manheim's "This is for all the fat girls!" over everything.

Watched the first and the last videos--why is J.Lo always invited to these awards shows?

Glenn, you are apparently my long lost twin as I have watched those specific four clips an embarrassing number of times.

I also loved loved loved the Tina Fey/Steve Martin screenwriting presentation at the Oscars, and when Amy Poehler and the rest of the Best Actress nominees got on stage at the Emmys.

Tina and Amy, for certain! And a big yes for Lily and Meryl! Meryl never looked more stunning then she did that night. And for fans of Lily Tomlin, I would encourage folks to check out her interview on The Nerdist podcast--fantastic!

"than" not "then".

December 14, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterPam

You're so right, the Altman tribute was fantastic. Meryl needs to present more often! Also: I feel like I tried to find the Fey/Martin one, but could only find the smallest of clips.

December 14, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterGlenn

Lily and Meryl, absolutely.

But my favorite of all time is one I can't find a clip of. Reese Witherspoon presenting best makeup, I think 2002. "Without makeup, actors would look like people in documentaries." I quote that ALL THE TIME.

Emily Blunt & Anne Hathaway & a cameo from Meryl in the audience
