The terribly underemployed Benedict Cumberbatch in The Imitation Game -- seriously how does he eat with no paychecks ever? He's playing Alan Turing, the gay mathematician who was instrumental in breaking the german Enigma Code in World War II. In case you've forgotten there was a movie called Enigma many years ago now starring Kate Winslet which was also about the enigma code if I remember correctly ... albeit starring different characters.

Of course Tapley highlighted something from Out of the Furnace.

I am really looking forward to The Imitation Game. Such an interesting and tragic story and very timely as Alan Turing was just recently given a special pardon by the Queen.
He was convicted of gross indecency and, because of his work, chose chemical castration over a prison sentence. The irony was that because of the conviction his security clearances were revoked and he could not carry on his important work.
He committed suicide at the age of 41.
His work on the Enigma code supposedly shortened the war and in the [process saved countless lives.
The script is apparently excellent and the supporting cast very strong.

Hathaway needed to step away for awhile. The mention of the Hathahaters is enough explanation. She can come back fresh and new rather than the gift that just won't stop giving.

Interesting piece on actors who steel the scenes. This is, as pointed out, the fault of the director for not keeping things on a more even keel, at least on film. On stage, it is often the actor's fault first, the director (or production manager) second. There are exceptions of course, people who are so special that they just shine and it would take a blanket over them to stop all the attention going to them (Monroe for instance).

Its about time we got an honest film about Turing. He was horribly treated. Horribly.....and I think Cumberbatch is perfect to play him.

Anne has a music movie coming out of Sundance and Interstellar next year. Given her indie period with Rachel Getting Married and how well she did with Nolan previously, I think she is slowing down and just making good choices.

Seeing that poster, Rosamund Pike was such a good choice for that role. So happy for her!
