American Lone Wolf in Linking
YouTube Edgar Wright talks to the cast of American Werewolf in London, one of his favorite films.
Vulture the latest Mad Men episode in 5 gifs - yeah, I know I'm late writing this one up (and there was so much movie business, too)
Guardian great prickly interview with Judy Davis who, rather shockingly, does not like her work in Husbands and Wives (only one of the great supporting actress performances of all time!)
Moviefone interviews Anthony Mackie who will play Falcon in Captain America Winter Soldier. And bless them for asking him about rap battles with Eminem in 8 Mile.
The Ochre has an interactive movie-oriented video. You choose once choices come up. Short and quite random.
IndieWire film critics and the 20 minute rule
Slate the purge of Netflix Instant Watch features and queues. I'm so sad about this. Why does Netflix hate us? I don't want to go back to the world pre-Netflix when every movie cost me money and movies were so hard to find.

... on Twitter and Facebook we've been we're talking about Kirsten Dunst's best work today on her 31st birthday. You'd know that if you were "following" or "liking" so join us.
Three More Things About The Tony Award Nominations Today Starting With This Tweet That Made Me LOL
NO #TONY NOMINATIONS FOR BOMBSHELL? #snub

That's for you "Smash" fans... those of you who remain
The Film Experience I filled out that messy post on the nominations (sorry about that) with a little more commentary and a few photos
The Onion sticks a fork in the Awards with this hilariously titled piece "Loud Desperate Need For Approval Leads Tony Nominations"
Finally...
Over at Towleroad I've interviewed the director Yen Tan about his new gay drama Pit Stop which has already picked up a couple of prizes at film festivals even before the LGBT film festival season (which starts in May) kicks off. One of those was from my own jury at Nashville (previously discussed). The film stars Bill Heck and Marcus DeAnda as two gay men who are struggling to extricate themselves from failed relationships in rural Texas. We talked about the trials of "gay panic" when you're casting for LGBT films, realistic sex in movies and authenticity in dialogue when English is your second language. You can see a list of upcoming screenings here (festivals in Boston, Maryland, Oklahoma City, Ann Arbor, and San Diego are next).

I demand Brian Geraghty have a part in a Marvel/Disney movie so we can have a potential Hurt Locker reunion of Mackie, Renner, and Geraghty together again.
Judy Davis was in Judy Garland: Me & My Shadows pretty much was the last hurrah of Grade A Network TV movies. The cast gets more astounding in hindsight.
There's also an incredible statement from Stephen Soderbergh that is making the rounds right now about the state of the movie business and cinema as an art.

CMG -- yeah, do they even make those anymore? or did they just let cable have the whole market?
i support your hurt locker reunion in tights.
Does the ever present anger of Judy Davis negate the outrage of her Oscar lost to Tomei?
3rtful -- probably, yeah. interesting suggestion. i love hearing about actor's feelings about their own performances but that's whackadoo that she doesn't like that one. it's her best!
Nate,
The Edgar wright video --- he says he first saw Amer. Werewolf on TV 30
Years ago when he was nine or ten. He must of meant 1984? Right?
Sorry, Edgar says he first saw the film in 1994 at the age of ten so he must
Of meant 1984.
TB -- i tried to watch that and lost the thread somewhere in all his plane ride stuff. I guess i should try again.
OMG KIKI IS MY FAVORITE ACTRESS
Her best is probably Crazy/Beautiful ... just beautiful. The scene where she breaks down in front of her father after the cops bring her home literally breaks my heart. Amazing.
She's also amazing in Melancholia ("it tastes like ashes" or "you wanna know what i think about your plan? i think its a piece of shit" or "the earth is evil").
And Bring it On is a classic which she is also great in. Recently saw Bachelorette and she was great in that too. She was great in Eternal Sunshine too. She was good in The Virgin Suicides but I didn't care for that film, same for Marie Antoinette.
Still need to see All Good Things and Interview with a Vampire (I know, sad since I'm such a huge fan).
I am also on Team Kiki.
Favorites:
Melancholia
Interview With a Vampire (God her and Cruise ran circles around Brad Pitt)
Dick (I like her and Michelle Williams making Dick puns and jokes dozens of times and that is still probably the most accurate portrayal of Woodward and Bernstein ever captured on celluloid)
Drop Dead Gorgeous (Is he Minnesota accent perfect? No. But she sells those tap shoes)
The Cat's Meow (It is an Oscar-worthy performance)
Bachelorette (May people not fall for the false marketing and rediscover it as the pitch-black comedy it is)
Basically, she is great to me in everything. I am also super defensive of her portrayal of MJ in the Spider Man movies. It taught me about misogyny about my fellow comic book fan boys. I was very young.
As for Ms. Tomei, I think she recovered well for herself. I like that performance, I like that movie. Is it Oscar prestige? Absolutely not and I have absolutely no idea why it was taken that way. It is just a case of where Oscar gold poisons a perfectly good, fun performance and a movie.
Davis' overt theatricality is not what she wanted. Yet her natural aim for intensity sees her in the camp category attempting to warm up to something more somber.
Allen is not generous with multiple takes and often refuses to give specific direction.
Don't forget about probably the hottest casting new this week. The brit of the decade, Michael Fassbender and Hollywood's leading dramatic actress #1, Natalie Portman, will make MacBeth come to live on screen!
I forbid Judy Davis not to like her performance in "Husband and Wives", it's an act of genius!!!
If they keep dividing up the streaming services it's only going to increasing pirating. I don't want to pay for more than one account, and I'll find the absent flicks from that service another way....
They need to come together or it will all fall a part. Like HBO in TV history, Netflix got to the idea first now let them run the show.
