The Backlot has an interesting thing to say about Marilyn Monroe. Interesting Monroe thoughts are rare!
The Playlist the new project Nasty Baby from Sebastian Silva sounds fun. With and Kristen Wiig and Tunde Adebimpe
In Contention on the supporting/leading category placement decisions of upcoming performances. I'm really hoping Amy Adams (American Hustle) goes lead since that would be a nice change of pace.
Pop Blend Sigh. People still care about Jennifer Aniston's feelings about Angelina Jolie!
Kveller lol. the best use of Christina Aguilera's "Burlesque" since Burlesque itself. That's one pricey flamboyant Bar Mitzvah celebration
Pajiba writes an open letter to Showtime since they're still airing Dexter. (I'm SO glad I quit that show. I only wish I had quit it a couple of seasons before I did.
The Advocate terrific op-ed about waning enthusiasm for Lady Gaga and gay man + diva love affairs
I’ve heard other gay gripes about Gaga and wondered if it had less to do with Mother Monster and more with an approaching expiration date with the gay man/diva treaty (signed around 1900 between Sarah Bernhardt and Oscar Wilde, possibly).
LOL
Pajiba cast changes at Orange is the New Black. Thrilled that Lorraine Toussaint (Middle of Nowhere) is joining!
New York Times a revival of the musical adaptation of The Color Purple (for the stage) is winning raves in London - I didn't know there was a new one so that's not why we were talking about it. I guess it's in the ether.
The Dissolve "shocker" critics more critical than general moviegoers

Honestly? I've quite liked DEXTER this final season and last season, if only to revel in the awesomeness of Jennifer Carpenter. The biggest problem with the show was those awful middle seasons.
"Speaking of Adams, I'm told there is a lot of confidence for her in the lead actress category opposite Bale as every bit his partner and equal, helping to run cons as an expert at pretending she's someone she's not."
Translation: Amy Adams IS Women Who Lie To Themselves. Boom! Ticket sold!
Also as a gay lady with her own elemental draw to divas, I would give everything I own to be a fly on the wall at the parties where Jane Fonda was very very drawn to Marilyn Monroe.
nathaniel, I love your 'hatred' for "dexter"!
The greatest thing about this Adams placement is that it becomes easier to Jennifer Lawrence to get a nomination in supporting. I would love if she won back to back Oscars and she looks so fierce in that trailer! It'd be even greater if she got a double nomination, also in lead gor Serena.
Madonna, I love u!!! Be a doll and lower the price of your show tickets!
I saw the touring version of John Doyle's "Sweeney Todd," where the cast played the instruments and the murders were conveyed by a red light, a screaming whistle, and the actors pouring liquid from one bucket to another. It was one of the most godawful "arty" theatrical travesties I've ever witnessed.
He can claim he's taking "The Color Purple" back to Cellie's story, but Walker had many threads in her novel involving the other characters, and though the movie and the musical were on the top-heavy side, they did give the material some majesty and sweep. I'm very apprehensive about Doyle's approach here as well.
Could you imagine if Adams went lead and Lawrence got a nomination in supporting over Oprah? I feel like Sasha Stone would have to leave social media for the remainder of the season.
I hope that Adams is great in 'American Hustle'--she's going to be nominated no matter what. Has an actor ever been so consistently rewarded for such unexceptional work?
I would be happy if Amy Adams goes lead, but maybe that's just because right now I'm just really excited about her performance in "Her." The voice of Scarlett Johansson and flashback Rooney Mara have to handle love interest duties, so I'm really excited to see Adams just have have fun with a character role and a shock of Amy Irving hair.
I saw a great low-budget, stripped-down version of The Color Purple in LA last year, so this approach can definitely work for the show. I also am a fan of Doyle's work on Company and Sweeney Todd, which makes me think he will pull this off.
"Has an actor ever been so consistently rewarded for such unexceptional work?"
Boo! She was great in Junebug and The Fighter. Doubt was just a bad movie but of the 'Hollywood' re-casts she was best at her part (though Viola Davis ran circles around all of them) and whatever, she was fine in The Master. I just wished she was rewarded for her work in Enchanted.
