Twenty Years A Sculder
Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at 1:42PM
JA from MNPP here - typing this now I'm realizing I actually have no idea what Nathaniel's stance is on The X-Files, but today's the 20th anniversary of the very first episode if you can believe it, so I figured I'd check in with you guys, see if we have an fans up in The Film Experience. I can never quite believe that I came as late to the show as I did - it was firmly up my alley even back then, but it wasn't until well into the show's fifth season that I started watching. I think that maybe corresponded with the first movie? Anyway I was hooked just in time for the quality to take a nose-dive (hello Annabeth Gish), but I stuck with it straight to the muddied end. There's been talk ever since the second movie in 2008 of a third film, wrapping it all up - do you want to see it come back? Or should Mulder and Scully stay off in the sunset?
And how freaking fabulous does Gillian Anderson look these days (she is divine on Hannibal) anyway? Sound off on your favorite X-Files moments in the comments!

I was a huge fan of the series.
I liked the first film, the second one is awful.
Give me more Scully anyway and I will enjoy it.
I still think she is a v underrated actress/screen presecence, should have been nommed in 2000 as Best Actress.
I was a huge fan, but I also came in late (midway in the 5th season), and I stayed until the rather unsatisfying end. The second movie was horrible, therefore it's probably better if there is no third. Though no horrible episode or movie was able so far or will ever be able to really hurt the series' great overall legacy, so maybe give it a try, and if it fails... whatever!
The X-Files was my Mom's favorite show when it was on (along with ER), and I remember it being a big deal when we were finally allowed to stay up late on Sundays to watch it with her. I became a huge fan almost instantly because the thrills it provided were like absolutely nothing else on TV at the time - a great combination of scary-weird and just plain scary. It was impossible to sustain, as the last seasons painfully showed, but I wouldn't trade it for anything. Oddly enough, Hannibal is pretty much the only thing that can match it these days, and not just because of the truly fabulous Gillian Anderson!
I still get creeped out whenever Johnny Mathis's "Wonderful, Wonderful" comes on.
"I can tell you don't have no children. Maybe one day you'll learn... the pride... the love... when you know your boy will do anything for his mother......"
I literally just started watching the first episode again, and I had no idea that it premiered twenty years ago today. That's too Spooky, pun intended.
I liked this show but it was the kind of like that did not convince me to watch each week. I sorta just occassionally tuned in. LOVED Gillian though and still do.
She is also great in the awesome BBC series The Fall.
The X Files is one of my most favorite TV Series of all time. I can remember staying up late night to watch this when I was a kid. I wished modern sci-fi shows were this good
