COMMENT(s) DU JOUR
Amy Adams for Janis Joplin

"It's baffling to me that Amy Adams will potentially have as many nominations as Blanchett, Winslet, Maggie Smith, Vanessa Redgrave, Thelma Ritter, Deborah Kerr, Sissy Spacek, and Glenn Close. This is weird, right?" -Aaron

"What is happening with Nina Arianda's Janis film with Sean Durkin? It's still listed as "announced" on her IMDB. Are we to assumed that it is a lost cause?" -Ryan

Podcast: Mean Girls Commentary, Two Parts

You own a copy of Mean Girls (2004), right?

Pull it off the shelf, rent it or Netflix Instant it (it expires May 1st!) so you can watch as you listen to this podcast. In this very special 10th anniversary celebration, Nathaniel R (The Film Experience) and Joe Reid (The Wire) return to North Shore High to watch Mean Girls together and provide you with our very own DVD commentary track. If you don't watch while you listen we'll sound like mad men giggling out of context or merely like we're too gay to function.

We discuss everything: performance, writing, costumes, set design, scoring and even casting that almost was -- it would have been such a different film. We also talk the reliable time capsule worthiness of the high school comedy film genre and tangents occur. Due to file sizes and the 97 minutes of running time, I can't embed both parts here in the post but you can download the 2 part conversation on iTunes. Or, if you don't have iTunes, both parts are here on the podcast upload page

Joe and I would really love you to continue the conversation in the comments. (Katey and Nick couldn't attend. But they love Ladysmith Black Mambazo!)

You guys need to do this more often. Fantastic job, and agree that you can rewatch this movie with commentary and the conversation topics would be completely different just because there are so many things to talk about.

One of my favorite lines is Regina George asking Cady when they first meet, "Why don't I know you?" It's spoken with such insincere kindness and gotta-love-me bitchiness that it's only gotta leave Cady agape at this goddess in her mist. McAdams's line-reading totally informs you what's so hateable and yet so loveable about Regina George.

OT--- maybe you should wait for Cannes to wrap up before
Posting the new year oscar predictions.. What'cha think???

@Me - How can I say politely that you shouldn't say things like that? :p

Listening to it now and thinking that you (Nathaniel) should watch Cloud Atlas with Katey (ha!) and Miss Potter with Nick.

Or you can give us choices to vote for.

Ok. I couldn't sleep and this was the perfect way to kill time. Just listened to the whole thing while watching the movie on Netflix. So much fun. Thanks for doing this and please consider doing it with another movie. :)

BTW, the movie Janis and Damian are watching is Friday the 13th Part 2.

I DO love Ladysmith Black Mambazzo! But Nick and I were actually on this podcast, just being silent on the three-way call, so yeah Joe, I TOTALLY heard that you said nobody likes Nick because he's such a slut. Boo, you whores!

April 29, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterKatey

Katey, you misheard me, I said EVERYBODY likes Nick because he's such a slut. Stop being such a pusher.

Best two hours at work I've spent in a while! Great, great podcast.

That was a lot of fun, nearly as much fun as the movie itself. Here's my best shot: http://james-wwwmusingsandstuff.blogspot.com/2014/04/making-fetch-happen-mean-girls-10-years.html

I've died and gone to heaven.

See now the problem will be that I'll watch some of my favorite films and think, I wonder what the podcast on this would be like? Loved this.

Are you taking requests? How about Clue's 30 anniversary next year? And I would kill for a Beaches podcast where Joe is praising Lainie Kazan and berating Barbara Hershey's awful Hillary while Nick questions out loud why this movie is happening to him.

eurocheese -- Joe & I are pleased to have created this problem for you ;)

I've just started and now i'll never not see Annette Bening as the torchbearer in the Columbia Pictures logo.

Amazing podcast. You absolutely have to do This again.

Yes, a Beaches podcast with Nick watching it for the first time (he's the one who's never seen it, right?) sounds perfect.

Maleficent - the old mistress of the animals (and the woods) - should not be violated and mutilated, since only she is capable of loving all creatures with UNCONDITIONED LOVE, including loving humans (domesticated-civilized „little beasties“).
Philipp can only love what he „knows and what he can trust“, hence he fails to awaken the girl.
No wonder that all fairy queens, magicians and shamans have died out in „our“ world of iron cages (buildings, cars, electric current wires, mobile phones, …), iron wings (drones), and iron coins (money)…
By the way: there is also some „master of the animals“, but even he has died out in „our“ iron(ic) world as well…
