If only her performance has been as good as this shot.
I hope she one day has a performance that's equal to her celebrity because so far I don't get what the fuss is.
I hate her more than Streep.
I think she is a HUGE talent. I just want to see her get away from Russel, franchises and cartoons and find an age appropriate, deep, interesting character (like her Winter's Bone role) so we can understand what all the fuss is about.
I do think Lawrence is quite talented. She seems to be aware of how she is perceived by an audience. But you can't please everyone. Personally I don't really care for Daniel Day Lewis, but I know people will disagree with me and that is fine. Lawrence seems to be fine too. She is laughing all the way to the bank- after Mockingjay a BIG bank probably.
Better than her Oscar winning performance. Then again a lot of her roles are better than her Oscar winning performance.
Wow people, so many burns in only five comments?! Ouch. I thought the JLaw hate train had already left the station a long time ago. Guess not.
People, she has 3 Oscar nominations and 1 win. She's 24 years old. She's filthy rich and has first-choice on probably every script in Hollywood. She's poised to be revered for her entire career like Streep, Lange or Fonda, unless she does something really stupid to mess it up.
Plus, that supporting performance was pitch-perfect for the movie and for her real-life persona as well. She's often gloomy in roles on the big screen; I'm actually glad that O. Russell got this from her. I' ll grant you she's miscast, but she'll eventually grow old enough to play the roles she's been playing for him.
And shouldn't we be supporting instead of tearing apart one of the freshest voices of the new acting generation? Did you have your life all figured out with perfect clarity when you were 24? Well, neither does she. So cut her some slack please.
She's amazing. I want her, Sandy Bullock and Melissa McCarthy in The Heat sequel ASAP.
I'd kind of love to see Warner Bros put the sudden kibosh on Batman v Superman, reverse tack and announce that they've secured JLaw for a Black Canary movie (maybe slightly young for Birds of Prey right now) and have THAT drop in 2017.
Volvagia- interesting idea- Jessica Chastian can be Batwoman and then Angela Basset can be recast as Wonder Woman (when I think of all the actresses out there who can Physically look like a superhero Basset comes to mind first. I would believe she could kick ass)
Love her, loved this role. One part rotten, one part delicious, just like a good actressexual prefers.
I love all the hate in the first few comments, because it looks like she's laughing directly it. If only we could see her laughing like that AND walking into a bank.
And she was hilariously, ridiculously, deliciously wonderful/awful in American Hustle. It's my favorite nomination for her, easily.
Winter's Bone, Silvers Lining Playbook, Hunger Games, American Hustle >> Most of her competitors around her age still have a lot more to prove than her. Many, like Emma Stone, may be as talented but don't have anything close to the filmography yet to prove it - as they are still delivering on the promise of their debuts and their careers could still potentially flop. Meanwhile Jennifer has cemented her star & talent.
Haters gonna hate. Although she did suck in the Xmen films.
Oops, Nathaniel probably didn't anticipate all the strong feeling in the comment. That photo probably just represents his mood at TIFF now, which from his articles the first few days it sure looks like he's laughing all his way to all the good movies.
As watchable as the best Turner. Well done, girl.
ouch... imagine if she had won the oscar a second time.
I really like her.
I liked her in this role. I actually liked the four main characters plus Louis CK in their roles. And I liked American Hustle a whole lot more than Silver Linings Playbook as a film and acting vehicle.
She's 100% the comic relief in every scene she's in. She needs to be that over the top to clearly be the clown compared to the more absurd so serious you have to laugh work of the other three wrapped in the government schemes.
Love her, love this performance, love this movie. Can't wait to see what she does next.
Tom: Yeah, the thing is I've grown to hold that Wonder Woman pretty much needs to be split in two, and that DC doesn't see that is completely stupid. The costume and codename need a different backstory (gender-flipped Captain America wouldn't be a bad idea, and adding a race lift as well would probably dissuade lawsuits) and the backstory needs slight tweaks (mostly for eliminating ANY ties to WWII) and an entirely new costume and codename. As is? She can never really work outside of the extreme abstract of being "visually iconic", due to the conflict at play. As far as it being Angela Bassett? Probably too old, but good basic idea.
basic bitches are bitching over their jealousy for this talented and beautiful girl.
J-Law is indeed laughing at all your stupid comments!
My favorite performance of 2014.
Whoops, I meant 2013 - I'm already looking ahead!
Love her, though she's proven herself to be a limited actress in her Russell and X-Men films.
I'm still of the feeling that her performance in American Hustle was overrated. I think what she achieved was quite entertaining. Great acting? Probably not.
How much hatred in the comments.
Go watch a movie folks!
How much over reaction in the comments.
My post was not meant as a hate comment and I think that is clear from the first sentence. I realize she reads older on film than her actual age, but if she keeps playing women that much older than herself (and her next project for Russell sounds like more of the same), she'll be playing Tom Hanks' mother soon. There are lots of other women who are and can play older who are passed over again and again which we lament here again and again.
Serena may be in trouble (or not) but they only just released dates for it to open in Europe. Has anyone seen it and why did it skip the festival circuit? She and Cooper are certainly big enough to open a film, even a dark film, wide in the States with pretty certain odds of success unless they are afraid it is going to tank. Bier is a good director. It's either an odd release strategy or.......
But I don't hate on Jennifer Lawrence. I just think she is making some problematic career choices. It wouldn't hurt her in the least to play a sweet young thing who isn't an ace with a bow and arrow.
I see the positive. Everyone here who dislikes that backwoods hillbilly Kentuckian slut have made themselves heard. And the next time Nathaniel wants to discuss her he knows she is then ultimate in divisive.
"slut"... oh my.
henry - your comment was not hateful, at all. and "serena" definitely sounds suspicious, but j-law could use a failure (a 'perceived' one) I guess. btw, the film will be shown at last at the london film festival, in something called the "love gala" (?).
I agree on the fact that, although she does have talent, she's way overrated (as an actress, as a celebrity she's great). She *really* needs to stop doing characters supposed to be 10+ years older because, I don´t care what Russell says about her ageless qualities, it´s distracting.
PS: as usual, 3rtful had to cross the line between criticism and disrespect.
HappyGuy - hear hear. I don't know what it is but between September and March when the Oscar fever begins and ends people get really riled up really easily. I prefer this to be a civil place but you know, what can you do. Certain actors just freak people out.
