Hmmm Oscar clip among these?

October 24, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterNATHANIEL R

I can't to watch this!

October 24, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterCraver

Winslet's Oscar clip is in that third GIF.

October 24, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterIan

Right now, she's my runner-up for Best Supporting Actress. In first, Jessica Chastain for Crimson Peak.

October 24, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterSteven

why, ms winslet, without your glasses you're...beautiful.

October 24, 2015 | Unregistered Commenterpar

Winslet's Oscar clip is in GIF #3.

October 24, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterIan

Agreed. Her "clip" will likely be from the last third when she starts her "For nineteen years..." monologue.

I was surprised how much I enjoyed her in a supporting part! She has such a knack for reacting to dialogue/action.

That second gif looks like it'd be from a musical.

Good news, everyone - Rachel Weisz is replacing Kate Winslet
in Yorgos Lanthimos' next film - phew, dodged that bullet!

October 25, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterUlrich

No Ulrich we're stuck with Emma Stone.

October 25, 2015 | Unregistered Commenter/3rtful

I sit me or is she the only person who can win.

October 25, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterMARK

I agree with everyone; her Oscar-clip will most likely come from that last third (who can resist a good well-earned tantrum filled with objects being flung?).

As to whether she can win, I'd never underestimate her charm in the circuit (EVERY.SINGLE.PERSON who asked a question at the NYFF Q&A went out of their way to praise her and her performance... and then proceeded to address their questions at literally any one else). Might "the long suffering work wife" be as effective a hook as "the long suffering wife"?

I'm normally cool to Winslet, but I really liked her in this role. It was probably my favorite Winslet performance. I was more interested in Joanna Hoffman than anyone else in the movie and googled her immediately when I got home.

Kate does a fantastic job in this opus to yelling. Fassbender did not work for me. He is competent but in no way resembles Steve Jobs. Christian Bale may have been a better choice to play him.

@par - An Enigma reference?

October 25, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterJames T

@3rtful - Weisz is indeed replacing Winslet. Stone's in a different role.

October 25, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterCarlos

She was probably my favorite part of the film tbh.

October 25, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterRyan T.

Carlos: I'm aware Stone is playing a different role. I'm just unenthusiastic about her casting.

October 25, 2015 | Unregistered Commenter/3rtful

She was fine in Jobs but "popped" less than anyone else in the supporting ensemble. I liked Rogen, Stuhlbarg, Waterston, and the three Lisas far more than her. There's just nothing to this role.

Fassbender surprised me. I actually think there's quite a bit less yelling/shouting from him than many people have said. His offhand line delivery actually undercuts a lot of Sorkin OTT-ness and Boyle sentimentality.

October 26, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterKate

Kate is really terrific in this. There's a great deal of reacting in this role, and like the previous poster said, she's quite astute at that. I hope she gets a nomination. She deserves it for adding a great deal of humanity to a film that desperately needed it.

October 27, 2015 | Unregistered Commenterbrookesboy

Her Oscar clip is in the third gif. When I saw that scene, I thought "Damn, she could actually win her second". It'll be a well deserved nomination but she deserves to win for the way she disappeared in this role. There was nothing showy about the transformation. It's a beautiful performance. So rich in detail and full of humanity. I agree with Bryan; her reactions are wonderful. I always thought her supporting turns were just as impressive as her leading ones. Even in a movie like Contagion when she has nothing to do, she still stands out more than everyone else.
