Tweetweek: Clue, Star Wars, Awards Silliness
We weren't allowed to say this for fear of screening crashers but as you're reading this I'm probably watching the credits crawl at the end of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. More soon obviously.
The past week has been just crazy with awards announcements and it's easy to drop usual columns on accident but I can't not share these choice tweets that amused.
Clue, Sir Patrick Stewart, Golden Globes and a lot of Star Wars silliness after the jump...
When Darwin wrote The Origin of Species, he really skimped on explaining the whole gays-and-actresses thing

Happy 30th birthday to "Clue," the most American movie. It's about a house full of white murderers who think outsiders are the problem.

There's a war in the stars now??? Thanks Obama.

The only star war I'm interested in is the one happening between Streep and Fonda here. pic.twitter.com/bJYm3QMaSz

Only in gay movies do people ask which half of a couple is the lead and which one is supporting.

At this point, Meryl has ZERO nominations for Ricki. It's unbelievable. It's historical. Is it fatigue?
I almost forgot about the category of Best Dance Direction. (Why didn't they just call it Best Choreography?) But the one thing I do remember is the "All God's Children Got Rhythm" number from A Day at the Races was nominated for 1937.
Also, that "Puss in Kinky Boots" photo is too funny.
I think they only nominate Meryl for bad dramas, not bad comedies. Though I'd quibble over "Julie & Julia."
Meryl Streep not having traction during an award season should be viewed as relief for all. Nineteen nominations in five decades is more than enough for her entire career and film legacy. She's not close to dead. And one Oscar away from matching Katharine's statuette count. As much as she appreciates the position she has over her peers she also knows it sucks to lose after being nominated so it is better to not be nominated and relax at home without concern someone else will take your place when no one else will not even Blanchett. Though Winslet, Blanchett, Adams, and possibly Lawrence will be joining Davis, Hepburn, and Streep in the double digits nomination club soon.
A+ for Dusty.
I need Dusty's tweet framed
All of these are pure fabulousness.
Damn, Sir Patrick... don't hurt 'em.
They should honestly give out a Best Choreography Oscar as a Special Achievement trophy once in a while. Jerome Robbins got the last one for West Side Story in '61! Along with Best Stunt and Best Voice Acting -- ONLY for incredible cases tho. Robin-Williams-and-Ellen-Degeneres-incredible.
I thought Streep was at her most Actressy in RATF,I think Leto's joke at the Oscars spoke volumes about Streep fatigue.
Don't forget Onna White for OLIVER!, but yes, a special Best Choreo award would be nice. But besides ALL THAT JAZZ I'm not sure if I can come up with a movie where the choreography was center stage AND amazing since the 60s.
Dave in Hollywood: Pina (2011), Test (2013). Although in neither case was it "original" (for the film) choreography, should that be an issue.
