Tangerine Wishes & Globe Prediction Jitters
We're hoping against all hope at TFE HQ that Tangerine will somehow place in the Golden Globe Comedy or Musical categories in the morning. Not only because it's hugely deserving but because wouldn't that be a kick to see Sean Baker, Kitana Kiki Rodriguez and Mya Taylor at the Globes? It would take a (good) miracle but we're due one after the (bad) miracles of SAG Nomination Morning, don'cha think? Great movies are their own awards though. So even if it never gets nominated for or wins another prize, cherish it. It's streaming on Netflix so if you haven't yet seen it, invite friends over (comedies are better with a crowd), serve donuts, turn out the lights and be amazed. You WILL have a good time.
The night before the Globe nominations what are you dreaming of and what are YOU predicting. I'll share mine after the jump -- because they're bound to be wrong and who wants that on the main page! -- for you completists...
foolhardy predictions
probably unwise to bet against Hateful Eight but it must be stopped!

You're NOT predicting Ronan for best actress-drama???
Also, nice call for Cinderella in best picture-comedy/musical. I could totally see that happen. I also think that Smith takes Danner's place in actress, unfortunately.
I am dreaming of a nomination for Elizabeth Banks. I will be thrilled for her. Also, a far out choice for me is Saint Laurent for foreign language film. I'm not sure about GG eligibility, though. It had a very small run in NY this year, but came out in France last year.
I think you forgot about Ronan. If there is any lock in best actress, it's definitely her.
I'd say Ronan for the win, Mulligan (unfortunately) gets squeezed out.
I have no expectations. This movie year is weak. And those who say otherwise have much lower standards than me. Which is why I'm perpetually disappointed by so much.
It would be nice if Straight Outta Compton and Creed showed up. Not holding my breath.
With the looks of today's SAG nods, I don't think there's anyway the Globes could disappoint me any more... but then, do we really want to push our luck?? Lol.
I agree with others, Ronan is in...if anything, Mara will get in but Vikander won't. But who knows. There's a lot up in the air right now. I'm hoping for some good choices though.
Is 'Sisters' eligible for the comedy categories?
TV-wise, I know Masters of Sex had a choppy third season, but I would love it if the HFPA tipped their collective hat to Lizzy Caplan. She's a gem.
I definitely meant to type RONAN
I don't really understand what's so disappointing about the SAG Awards besides the same old contenders in TV and Helen Mirren.
These are fresh exciting noms. Everyone complains about how boring years are because of how everything gets sorted out in December and we FINALLY have this wide-open Oscar race from top to bottom. I mean forget who's going to win, who's even going to get nominated? It's wild.
My friends and I are already having a party on Saturday where we'll all be watching TANGERINE. Me for a second time. LOVE. love. love.
I really hope Joan Allen gets a nomination tomorrow. Even if it doesn't resolve into an Oscar nom, it'd be a worthy reminder to casting directors to cast her in more roles again...perhaps one that will definitely win her one in the near future!
Over at GoldDerby I put my money where my heart is and predicted Tangerine for Best Comedy/Musical (a week ago).
Do you really think Charlotte Rampling has such slim chances? After all they did nominate Rachel Weisz for The Deep Blue Sea in 2012
On your Best Actor - Comedy/Musical, Phoenix = Joaquin Phoenix? Was he in any movie this year? Also, Robert de Niro, as in Robert de Niro for The Intern?
PJ - irrational man? i think
Curious but what is it that you dislike about The Hateful Eight, Nathaniel???
PJ: Irrational Man.
BlueMoon02: Its very existence?
After the SAG nominations I don't know how I am going to predict the Globes. With the main critics bodies all awarding different films and actors and the bizarre SAG noms - I am expecting some shockers tomorrow.
@Paul Outlaw I haven't watch it yet but I am a Tarentino fan , so I am highly anticipating it. Especial JJL's performance. However I really disliked Django Unchained.
I expect to see Tom Hardy get a nom somewhere. Peobably replacing one of the Creed axtors on your list.
Off-GG Topic, but I'm curious why they're not also trying to get Tangerine some Original Screenplay attention. There's not as much stiff competition, and the writers' branch has been adventurous with tiny or bold work like this in the past
I've been wondering if "Til It Happens to You" is even eligible given that the Globes don't have a documentary category and are generally pretty rigid about docs, animated, and foreign language films staying in their assigned categories.
I'm rooting for Mustang in FL and Carol/Brooklyn throughout the categories.
I'm sorry, but I have to laugh at "The Transgender Revenge Comedy of the Year" quote on the Tangerine poster. Are there other transgender revenge comedies this year that I'm not aware of?
