Curio: Oscar Snacks 2015

Alexa here. I knew early on that my annual Oscar pig-out this year would feature the pastry at the center of Wes Anderson's latest. Not only because it was probably my favorite film this year, but because Wes kindly supplied detailed instructions for making the Courtesan au Chocolat.  A literal invitation to create my own Wes Anderson diorama!  I had to try.

It was all fun and games until the assembly, when the mini towers toppled like dominoes. Damn you, Wes!

Well, a few survived anyway, and the mess was yummy nonetheless.

We also enjoyed a buffet of punny sweets and savories throughout the weekend to celebrate the nominees...

Our complete Oscar menu:

1. A "real" roast chicken à la Birdman

2. A few pristine Courtesan au Chocolat for Grand Budapest Hotel

3. Imitation (Game) Crab maki

4. American Snickers

5. Whip-hash browns and drumsticks (leftover from Birdman's chicken) for Whiplash

6. MLKing cake for Selma

7. Shrimp po' Boyhood sandwiches

8. Theory of Everything bagels

What did your Oscar menu feature this year?

I want those jug/drawers in your kitchen in the top pic!

These are REALLY clever, Alexa! I did not do my traditional Oscar party this year, because I'm now living in a one-bedroom apartment in NYC as opposed to a condo in CT, but I did of course plan the menu anyway. I WISH I had come up with Theory of Everything Bagels! For that one I just did the peas. The cleverest I got was American Snapper. Birdman would have been "Smells Like Balls", these little cheese puff balls I love to make. And of course drumsticks for Whiplash and the Mendl's pastry for Grand Budapest.

Ha JB, if course all the food (except the pastry) was purchased.

Carlos, the storage is from IKEA.

Denny, cheese balls! My favorite! Wish we'd gone that direction.

THE BAKER'S BRUSCHETTA.
The cheese as white as milk.
The tomatoes as red as blood.
The peppers as yellow as corn.
The bread as pure as gold.

Here was our menu this year: http://www.cinemunch.com/home/2015/2/19/oscar-menu-2015

denny - we had American Snapper too!

Alexa - major props for your Courtesan au Chocolat, we ended up giving up and basically making a version of macaroons

Mostly we were very happy to have had 3 different beverages to get us through to the end...
