"Best Shot" Mid Season Finale
Why not join the merriest movie club? You only have to 1) watch the movie, 2) take a screengrab of your favorite image and 3) post it somewhere online saying why you chose it. It's that easy! Here's what's coming right up... only two episodes left until we break for a few weeks.
Wednesday Night, April 29th BRIGHT STAR (2009)
Thursday Night, April 30th... (you have an extra day due to forgotten scheduling conflict chez moi)
We're joining Anne Marie's "Women's Pictures" series for a Jane Campion (she's been the topic this month). Drown in the beauty of this flowery poetic romance between poet John Keats (Ben Whishaw) and fashionista Fanny Brawne (Abbie Cornish). Cinematography by Greg Frasier who Oscar has yet to notice for shame.

ORSON WELLES CENTENNIAL
WEDNESDAY MAY 6th
mid season finale of HYMYBS
Your choice experiment!
CITIZEN KANE or THE MAGNIFICENT AMBERSONS or THE LADY FROM SHANGHAI
Let's make this one special - challenge a friend to play to expand our club! If they don't have a web space, share their pic as well as yours in your article. To celebrate this cinematic giant on his 100th birthday, experience either his compromised but incredible family epic (...Ambersons is my personal favorite) or Shanghai, the stylish Rita Hayworth noir. If you're feeling really ambitious take on his behemoth debut which many consider the greatest film of all time.

Bright Star! Wow, is gonna be hard to choose just one.
9 to 5!
Fernando -- i'm already terrified!
Johnny Guitar is SO GOOD! Well done!
Nat: Speaking of that video game cutscenes thing I've been suggesting lately (I know, it's a total pipe dream that a lot of people who read this site would want to do it), I've been looking through Bayonetta's cutscenes carefully and OH CRAP is there a lot of great stylish and funny stuff there.
volvagia -- i appreciate that your imaginations engaged but i don't know that world at all and don't own any video game systems and so on and so on.
Nat: I suggested nine serious ideas (look at your last open thread) and you can look up cutscene packs on their own on Youtube. Game companies are, in general (coughNintendoisanoutliercough), actually pretty lax with copyright.
Oh this will be fun.
But seriously, Bright Star will be a ridiculous challenge.
Great great choices!
I'm so pleased with the Taxi Driver, 9 to 5, and Bright Star selections. I've been meaning to rewatch Taxi and 9 to 5 and watch BS. Hope to chime in for all three.
so excited for BRIGHT STAR! i haven't seen it since i saw it in the theatre. definitely time for a rewatch - it's so gorgeous!
Johnny Guitar! Wow, great choice.
I was lukewarm when I first saw BRIGHT STAR in theaters, but I have a feeling I was in a bad mood in general so I'm looking forward to seeing it again ESPECIALLY now with how much I've fallen in love with Ben Whishaw the past few years. (I also think I need to re-watch BRIDESHEAD REVISITED).
I love Greig Fraser's work so much. He's also an incredibly awesome guy!
I was lucky enough to receive a photographic award in his name and speak to him briefly! So glad his career is taking off and can't wait to see him receive an Oscar one day!
Bright Star!!!
Not fair, putting one of my serious Mommie Dearest best shot contenders on the left side of the main page!
I am sooooo there for Mommie Dearest
Yeeees
SWOON! Bright Star!
FYI... 9 to 5 is avail on Netflix Instant also. Which... yay!
Actually, Orson Welles' The Trial is on Netflix Instant. I love it. It's such an accurate Kafka adaptation without being 100% true to the text. The tone, the message, and the absurdity are perfection.
The "Best Shot" from "Citizen Cane"? Wouldn't that pretty much be every frame {grin}?
Frank -- that's why i'm not doing that one. I think i'm going with Lady from Shanghai because it's the one I don't know as well as the other two.
