I was thinking the other day about how much I miss Laura Linney.
Even in the "wife" parts Laura Linney can really slay. Here's hoping for casting directors to recognize her talents and cast her in more things worthy of her talents.
Mystic River is all about Marcia running down helpless streets and crying in kitchens.
Mystic River Pizza: them anchovies'll kill ya.
Isn't Laura Linney in a movie this weekend? Rare celebratory occasion.
why is she in the next Ninja Turtles...is this because her kids don't recognize her in any movies
I love her, but Mystic River is such a mess of a movie. Why do all the women have to be psycho?
Sean Penn is SPECTACULAR in this movie
So much ACTING! in this movie.
La Linney in full Lady Macbeth mode. Love. This film, however, not so much. (And I *hate* to be reminded that Sean Penn has an Oscar for this when he was infinitely better in Dead Man Walking and, later, Milk, and Ben Kingsley, Bill Murray, and Johnny Depp were infinitely better than he.)
Is this "you're their king" scene? God, I hated that scene.
dela, just that scene?
I could barely stand a single acting Oscar winner from that year. Almost every one do the most in the worst way.
Also, I hope she gets a big movie part soon. I think the devoted mother/wife is the type of a role that will win her an Oscar one day. When she has been in the conversation, the Academy has generally given her a nomination.
Troy, actually the entire movie. That's the scene I remember most vividly from the movie, and I am someone who doesn't do a very good job of remembering scenes after the first viewing. But this hurl-worthy scene was a breaking point for me.
Troy -- i feel the same way about that year. everyone is overdoing it. The best among them is Charlize Theron by a country mile but even she was a little bit too much for me.
I liked Penn in this, although I liked him even more in 21 Grams. I still think that's one of the strongest Best Actor shortlists Oscar has put up in a while.
I finally watched Mystic River a few months ago and I really hated it. I thought it was stupid and the plot felt really convenient. Also didn't get any of the performances except Marcia Gay Harden's. Almost nothing about the movie really made sense to me. lol
"So... you ready?" "Yes dear. Now you can put your finger up my asshole".
Dangit, I was just thinking about Laura Linney yesterday. I want her back.
I'm sorry but this is the only role of Laura Linney's where I thought she was legit terrible. But the movie did her no favors either. Am still baffled at how well this movie did with Oscar (but maybe I shouldn't be...it is SERIOUS with a Capital S and it's Clint Eastwood).
Come on. Sometimes BIG is necessary, and Penn's pain is absolutely magnetic and operatic in this one. It's a magnificent James Cagney performance in perfect modern noir stylization. Don't be that literal.
I love Sean in just about everything, but I do not love this film. And Linney's Lady M shtik didn't do much for me either. I did think that Kevin Bacon and Laurence Fishburne were pretty good in this, and although Tom Stern (Changeling, Gran Torino, Million Dollar Baby, Invictus, J. Edgar) isn't usually one of my favorite cinematographers, I liked the camera and lighting.
Gotta say - I luuuurv Laura Linney, but this is the one performance of hers I cannot. stand. Not crazy about the movie, either.
