Rami -- i will never care what corporations think. I respect all the actors throughout history that have chosen not to submit themselves after wins so much: Candice Bergen, John Larroquette, Bill Cosby (well i still respect this one thing about him. sigh), Katharine Heigl, etcetera. It shows a love of their fellow performers and a certain embarrassment about being lauded too often that i think is healthy for both the industry and the performer.
i'm still so happy about VIOLA DAVIS and JON HAMM though. Yay! Now if we can only get Viola to magically quit that show and find a show that's actually worth her time/talents. Imagining her on something great like a Transparent or a The Americans makes me weep for what could have been.
Network shows will always have more eyes on them. A greater amount of the public knows who she is from her subpar show. It is a ratings juggernaut and she is the only worthwhile part about it. I want Scott Rudin to convince HBO to give Fences a theatrical release for awards consideration. After her speech who would not want to see Viola at the Dolby Theater give a speech of equal importance. Extremely elated Viola Davis made history.
Feeling overall positive about the wins - but maybe that's just afterglow from Viola's speech. Andy Samberg was just bad, though, I thought. Do not understand the GoT win but maybe since there was so much buzz this season... As a book reader, I thought it was kind of a mess.
I haven't seen Olive Kitteridge but with such a thin Limited Series/Movie field I have to wonder about the wisdom of spending so much broadcast time on those categories - and skipping Bessie's win. Also, why is Frances McDormand so frowsey? I just can't get behind it.
People complain that The same shows/people always win. When they vote for something diferent, they complain too.
Is Mad Men the only show allowed To win? The other shows must ask for its permission to win? It already won three times. It is a brillian series, masterfully written, wonderfully acted, but it is not perfect. It also has its flaws, Its weaker links, underdeveloped characters and weaker Plots. It is not without flaws and ups and downs like all other shows. And the last One was not unanimously praised.
I think it is good that they are looking at genre shows-or that it took them a mass phenomenon such as GOT for them to Have To look at genre shows.
Game of thrones is not a bad show under any circunstance, In no way shape or form. the last season was uneven yes, dorne was not well developed or well played, but it had moments of puer brilliancy and it reached masterpiece status at some sequences.
It is wonderfully acted. The scope, the production values, the ambition are outstanding. I wont go into the whole "Misoginy" thing because I think it is way more complicated and complex than that and I wont have time ir space to do that now.
But is it an unworthy winner? Not at all.
I was glad to see Modern Family finally get usurped, but have mixed feelings about Veep taking over the crown. I couldn’t stand any of the characters, who all seemed morally bankrupt (which is probably the point), and quit watching after three episodes. Perhaps political satire just isn’t in my wheelhouse. Jon Hamm’s win was glorious – I warned my viewing companions that they would have to pry me out of the fetal position if he lost. Praise Gosh he finally won.
My other quick takes…I love that Frances McDormand still gives zero fucks about all of the Hollywood bullshit. Ricky Gervais is still funny as hell. I believe he’s funnier presenting than he is hosting an entire show. Regina King’s win was such a nice surprise, and I couldn’t resist cheering when Peter Dinklage won, even though pundits thought there were more deserving performances in that category.
The ever luminous and superb Christina Hendricks not getting the trophy for her Joan will be the toughest disappointment to get over. In fact, I will always be peeved that the acting on Mad Men was criminally overlooked.
Hey Nat..
Janney won her 7th Emmy. She's tied in second place for most Emmys for acting (with Ed Asner, Cloris Leachman is 1st with 8).
I bawled my eyes out at Jane Krakowski bawling her eyes out at Tracy Morgan.
