Chloe Moretz For "Suspiria"
Chris here with some casting news for one we're keeping an eye on: Luca Guadagnino's Suspiria remake.
Chlöe Grace Moretz has signed on to Guadagnino's passion project retelling, one that has been long in the making with directors (Darren Aronofsky and David Gordon Green) and stars (Isabelle Huppert) dropping off. The casting is curious considering that Moretz had quite recently dropped out of all upcoming projects to refocus her career. I guess that's a quick turnaround!
Horror redos haven't been the actress's sweet spot, with Carrie and Let Me In both being big misses (though consider me a fan of the latter) that didn't use her particularly well. This remake will also come with a higher pedigree than those previous efforts and she might welcome the challenge that will likely come with the ballet-focused film. But maybe the Guadagnino pairing foretells Moretz repositioning her career through the hands of autuers - don't forget that Olivier Assayas was maybe the first to "get" her in Clouds of Sils Maria.
Moretz joins a cast that includes Tilda Swinton, Dakota Johnson, and Mia Goth. What do you think of the casting?

Chloe Moretz' durability is impressive given that it's hard to find any die hard fans of hers. I prefer her as a celebrity to Kristin Stewart because she looks determined and career driven without the introspective pretentiousness. I hope things turn out well for her,
This is weird. She just recently dropped out of a whole bunch of project to focus on life or something but signs up for this one... I guess one project can't hurt?
I actually liked her quite a bit in both of those horror remakes. This is the first and only element of the long threatened Suspiria remake that interests me. Moretz gets horror acting.
I don't like her....She's simultaneously flat and arrogant on screen for me. Hayden Panettiere however did a fantastic job in Until Dawn. And Scream 4. Probably a bit too old for Suspiria but I like to give her a shout out.
I don't ever get excited to see her attached to any project of interest to me because I don't think she's that good an actress (the last film I recall watching featuring her is Clouds of Sils Maria, and she is far and away the worst of the leads). Having said that, her name alone never has been reason enough to keep me away from a movie either, so color me indifferent so far.
She doesn't really do anything for me one way or the other, but then I haven't seen her in much. She was fine in Clouds of Sils Maria. Did not care for her in Hugo, although that movie overall fell flat for me (much to my disappointment). Was she the little sister in 500 Days of Summer, because I found that character annoying, though that was as much the writing as the acting.
A least she won't have the comparisons she had when she tried Carrie.
Not excited at all. Moretz is one of those stars that keeps getting pushed on me and I just don't see it. I find her wooden and, to repeat Amanda, arrogant. Also, why remake Suspiria when one, it's amazing as is, and two, the just released Neon Demon is clearly Suspiria inspired. Speaking of, Elle Fanning is everything Chloe Moretz is trying to be.
This makes sense, at least it's in her wheelhouse.
I've only seen her in Clouds, and she was quite effective as a spoiled, narcissistic bitch. I hope her range extends further.
Jonathon -- agreed on literally all counts. especially the Neon Demon / Elle part. On the other hand I love Luca Guadagino's work so much that I want to love everything he makes so I'll hope for the best even though going from two Tildas to a Chloe Moretz is the most insane kind of downgrade.
I don't like a single performance Moretz has given. In Clouds of Sils Maria, she seemed like she was in the minor leagues, which is saying something since the movie stars Kristen Stewart. But Dakota Johnson, another suspect actress, was surprisingly good in A Bigger Splash. So, maybe working with Guadagnino will bring something out in Moretz?
Kill that remake with fire
