Carol-Loving Hero of the Week: Chris Elena

This story must be prefaced by the fact that we don't condone tweeting during movies but this story was too delicious not to share. Christopher Elena, known Carol lover and apparently Australian prankster, took his young brother and his gaggle of 13 yr old friends to the movies with the promise of Deadpool.

But he bought tickets for Carol instead. On purpose. For your reading pleasure after the jump...

and a few choices reactions to the story...

This is amazing. He never had a chance, of course, but still amazing.

And really, you shouldn't be taking 13-year-old boys to Deadpool anyway.

I hope they enjoyed the queer baiting in Cinema 8.

I can't possibly be the only one who's 100% sure none of that actually happened and the attention-whore just made it all up to be cute on social media, right?

When I have kids and they want to see an obnoxious movie, I want to be able to do this trick! The problem is, is there gonna be a movie as perfect as Carol playing when that happens?

February 23, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterConMan1226

Carmen - I wouldn't be surprised either way, honestly.

DJDeeJay - Aren't both films Rated R, though?

Anyway, I'm torn. On the one hand, that was a pretty douchey thing to do. On the other hand, it was kind of funny?

@ Daniel Armour:
I think the douchiness of the 13-year-olds cancels it out.

Old man behind him: "Wll you PLEASE be quiet!"

aka my reaction to this story

DeeJayDJ . In Australia, Carol and Deadpool are not R rated. Carol is M meaning not recommnded for under 15yrs while Deadpool is MA15+ meaning under 15yrs must be accompanied.

February 23, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterVaus

@Daniel Armour - sure, but I'd rather my 13-year-old nephew see an R film because it has some language and fairly tame sex scene vs. an R that is just crazy violence

February 23, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterDJDeeJay

This is fucking hilarious!
Deadpool is shit compared to Carol. These boys should be grateful.
Still though: "Dis guy with the hat, is he a lesbian too?"

February 23, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterFadhil

@DJDeeJay - that defintely makes you part of the minority. When it comes to exposing impressionable young minds, parents will always choose violence over sex.

February 23, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterMDA

Fadhil: Garbage in comparison? Personally, kind of. It's a B level vs. an A- (10th place of 2015) level. But that "Carol is about love, Deadpool is about farting" line is...I get that he's not being literal with the farting thing and the movie does have an immature sense of humour, but I can't help but, at least somewhat, read into that the sentiment of "the disfigured don't deserve a shot at love."

February 23, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterVolvagia

I think you're aching there, V.

February 23, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterPaul Outlaw

(Somehow "reaching" got turned into "aching.")

February 23, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterPaul Outlaw

True or not, it's still a beautiful story.

The matter of whether parents or society are more restrictive about sex or violence is cultural.
I had a look at IMDB to compare the classifications of Carol and Deadpool. The information is incomplete but informative.
9 countries listed gave Deadpool a more restrictive rating than Carol (Argentina, Australia, Canada, Finland, France, Germany. Netherlands, South Korea, Switzerland)
5 countries listed gave Deadpool and Carol the same rating (Hong Kong, Ireland, Portugal, UK, USA)
2 countries listed gave Carol a more restrictive rating (Malaysia (banned) and Singapore)

The prank that the tweets described took place in Australia where a 13 year old can buy their own ticket to Carol but not Deadpool.

I don't approve of the prank for annoying the other cinema customers not just the 13 year olds.

February 23, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterVaus

Stupid prank. Only served to piss off the boys not educate them. 13 year old's have the right to look forward to and get excited about a movie. They have enough of being force fed content that they are not interested in at school. If someone had taken me to see say Coal Miners Daughter instead of Empire Strikes back when I was 13 I would have been really, really upset because I was really looking forward to seeing ESB.

BTW I'm an ex-teacher who grew up with 3 brothers. I love Carol and Star Wars and also Coal Miners daughter but have no interest in seeing Deadpool.

@MDA - oh, I'm aware of that, find it ridiculous and am proud to be in the minority.
