Michael B Jordan is the Big Winner at the Image Awards

Michael B Jordan was top dog at the Annual NAACP Image Awards taking both Outstanding Actor and Entertainer of the Year prizes for his work in Creed, which obviously should have netted him an Oscar nominations (we honored him here). Creed was a big player, too, taking Writing and Directing and Supporting Actress (Phylicia Rashad) prizes only to lose the Outstanding Motion Picture prize to Straight Outta Compton

In other curious developments Idris Elba, fresh off a SAG win, lost the Supporting Actor prize to O'Shea Jackson Jr for Compton. As a reminder of the strange nominee list, of the central trio in Compton only Jason Mitchell (who played Easy E) was snubbed, despite being the actor who received the strongest reviews within the film.

The image awards, now in their 47th year, are kind of an all purpose awards show for black artists so they also honor literature, music, and television. black-ish and Empire were the big television winners and Anthony Anderson hosted the awards show.

After the cuteness of Gabrielle Union & Keegan-Michael Key, the full list of winners.

You know black leading ladies reaaaaaally need better roles when even an Award show dedicated to black entertainment can't find something better than Sanaa Lathan in The Perfect Guy to Award.

Hollywood does not commission racially neutral scripts for female leads. Hence their repeated reply to the actress of color wanting to audition for a female led script is we have nothing for you.

I can't believe Nick Davis is celebratory of Mo'Nique for her opinion. Her entire conversation these days is about compensation. While one can say Jennifer Lawrence is saying the same thing. Lawrence wants to big payday because she's a big deal. Mo'Nique wants the big payday because she wants to luxuriate in luxury. I'm not compassionate to either woman.

When Taraji and Viola talk it is all about the work. Finding quality content to showcase their talent and to be fulfilled and competitive for awards consideration. They are artists. Not business people looking for pro athlete multi millions.

I wonder if the Smiths will complain about this as well.

V -- well at least Sanaa Lathan is a very good actress. but it does seem like a weird decision with Teyonah Parris right there for the taking in Chi-Raq

The Image Awards are no different than any other awards body. They all make idiotic decisions on the nominees and winners. Especially when the winner is already a star.

Ruby Dee lost the Supporting Actress award one year to Janet Jackson in "Why Did I Get Married?" I'm not sure anything will ever surprise more than that.

Well, NAACP nominated Justin Timberlake one year. So, I don't really take in consideration their taste level (or their criteria for being a person of color either, Timberlake may think he's black occasionally but that's it).

V the Image Award is not exclusively for black people.

Zig the Image Award gave Dee a special award at that ceremony.
