I laughed SO HARD at this. Well done, Nathaniel.

My free-associative first thought (because we've had so many) was "Is this Jennifer Connelly's take on The Joker?"

The best part was that I didn't recognize her.

Well, maybe Ewan McGregor's directorial debut will rocket her back to the B list, at least. Why? It's the American Pastoral adaptation that's been teased for so long. For a debut that's...that's hedging your bets. "Even if I'm not the best as a visual director, this is such great source material that I pretty much can't make a BAD movie out of it."

Why the need to say that she'll be rocketed back to the B list by Ewan's directorial debut? Harsh. She's not a bad actress, but like a long line of middle aged actresses, she has been forgotten.

She's one example of why Hollywood only goes for either younger or older actresses as previously written in one of the articles here. Talented, but bypassed. We should mourn her, instead of being snarky.

I didn't recognize her either. And she won that Oscar for running in a T-shirt in the rain. /bitchy

Martennis: I wasn't trying to say that to be dismissive or snarky. I was trying to say "She might be rocketed back, and that's awesome." She's fallen on hard times, but American Pastoral is a PLUMP bit of source material and that she's gotten it (as opposed to, say, the similarly aged, but not left behind, Amy Adams) is GREAT.

Martennis: If you want to see unarguable "snark", check the comment below you.

Man you guys are mean. I now almost hope that people are making similar jokes in 10 years time about Kidman or Chastain.

Ouch!

American Pastoral is not a very theatrical novel and, as much as I like Ewan, I doubt it's going to rock the film world.

I miss Connelly.

But this already looks terrible. Look at those eyebrows! Sculpted beautifully! No homeless person has eyebrows like that!
