Superheroes still
/Film shares early nerd joy tweets from Captain America: Civil War. As a Captain America nut I was excited until I started digging deeper and one person who loved it like crazy still says it's not as good as Deadpool (which is not even a *good* movie, let alone a great one) so I'll continue to downplay expectations as Captain America: Winter Soldier is the best Marvel Studios movie ever and it's difficult to top #1s in any subgenre.
Coming Soon Confirmed: Marvel Studios characters will appear in Sony's 2017 Spider-Man movie surprisingly virtually no one.

Political Mic Drop
I have announced on another platform and now here that I will stop talking about politics... at least until, oh, September. The why is that I find it absolutely damaging and yet strangely addictive like being a chainsmoker after a lung cancer diagnosis. Everyone hates everyone and I lose faith in almost everyone daily (including you. haha) when I listen to them talk about politics. And clearly people lose faith in me when I talk about politics (#imwithher). So since I will make a valiant effort to not speak about this until it's more relevant -- the next time anyone complains about how "long" the Oscars take I want to point them to this interminable two year long ordeal we're all living through politically -- I only ask that you read this hilarious, scathingly truthful Hilary Clinton endorsement from Ellie Mystal (thanks to MattRett for pointing it out) which sums up my feelings more than I thought was possible. And it put a smile on my face... which I didn't think was possible anymore politically.
(And that's it. Radio silence on politics after tonight. That's my plan at least.)
Today's Watch
The ghoulish tortured cast of Penny Dreadful are almost back! It took me a second to realize that the new poster was not a deformed skull performing its best Munchian scream but actually a man's body; Josh Hartnett's perhaps? Just 22 days until Season 3 begins. If you're not watching the show you don't deserve Eva Green, who may well be the most under appreciated supreme sorceress of the acting arts.
Official Synopsis:
This season on PENNY DREADFUL, Tony® Award-winning star Patti LuPone (American Horror Story), who guest starred last season as the Cut-Wife, returns as a series regular in the new role of Dr. Seward, an American therapist who treats Vanessa (Eva Green) with an unconventional new approach. Wes Studi (Hell On Wheels) joins as a series regular as Kaetenay, an intense, enigmatic Native American with a deep connection to Ethan (Josh Hartnett) who also becomes an ally to Sir Malcolm (Timothy Dalton). The third season also adds Robert Louis Stevenson’s Dr. Henry Jekyll (Shazad Latif). Other guest stars include Screen Actors Guild® Award nominee Christian Camargo (DEXTER®, The Hurt Locker) as Dr. Alexander Sweet, a zoologist who strikes up an unlikely friendship with Vanessa; Sam Barnett (2012, Jupiter Ascending) as Dr. Seward’s mysterious young secretary; and Jessica Barden (The Outcast, Far from the Madding Crowd) as Justine, a young acolyte to Lily (Billie Piper) and Dorian Gray (Reeve Carney), and Perdita Weeks (THE TUDORS), as Catriona Hartdegan, a scholar with expert knowledge of the supernatural. Simon Russell Beale returns as Dr. Ferdinand Lyle. Rory Kinnear (as The Creature) and Harry Treadaway (as Dr. Frankenstein) also star.

"If you're not watching the show you don't deserve Eva Green, who may well be the most under appreciated supreme sorceress of the acting arts."
Thank you for this. It is the most perfect statement about Eva Green I have ever seen.
I tend to disagree, re: "Deadpool". Yes, it's no masterpiece, but it's a damn fine adaptation of the source material, which doesn't even try to become surreal but goes directly dada. Ryan Reynolds is SPECTACULAR in this - certainly, in a parallel universe, he would be fighting for the Oscar with John Goodman (10 Cloverfield Lane) and whoever comes next. I'd put "Deadpool" in a top 10 of comic-book adaptations, so far. By the way, WB has adapted "The Killing Joke" - one of Batman's finest graphic novels - to an animated film, with Mark Hamill reprising his Joker impersonation... and it looks really good, I have to say. The book is amazing.
As amazing is the balls out, daring story of "Civil War", in the comics. Including a nod to conspiracy theories about 9/11, which I'm not going to spoil here, in case anyone feels curiosity - hint: it's not on the main storyline, but on the Wolverine's path for retaliation... there's a twist on the whole story, and your view on Civil War depends if you read or not that story, which adds shocking extra layers to the whole thing. One of Marvel's finest story archs. A pity so many things are going to be absent on the big screen.
Eva Green is one of the greatest things about this century.
You should talk about politics as much as you want (because I agree with you).
I understand the sentiment about not wanting to talk about politics. I had a stranger write 10 paragraphs about me on facebook (den of all even-handed political discourse...) to call me an idiot Hillary supporter and list every reason why I was so clearly a fool for supporting her. All I had done to earn this virtual virulence was make a passing comment on a friend's page about sexism existing in politics. I had made no mention of which candidate I supported. So yeah...
eva green in penny dreadful is truly a marvel. her performance in the episode "closer than sisters" in season 1 is worth all the emmys.
I tend to equate politicians to people wanting to have a one night stand: They'll say anything to get in your pants but when the morning comes, they're nowhere to be found. Therefore, I actively avoid listening to or involving myself in politics until I absolutely need to. Besides, my mom watches CNN constantly and I hear about a good bit of this stuff second hand.
Anyway, I don't think CA: CW needs to be better than TWS as long as it's a strong film in its own right... but it'd be nice if it does top it :-) (and I also think it's the best Marvel Studios film to date). The real worry, however, would be if it's compared to X-Men: The Last Stand.
I can't see myself ever watching Penny Dreadful for a number of reasons but not being an Eva Green fan is certainly one of them. Admittedly, none of the projects I've seen her in were all that great in general but her performances didn't grab me either. Also, I just don't find her to be this incredibly gorgeous woman that others seem to see her as (a feeling I also share about Penelope Cruz... but I digress).
I wish I was a voter (I'm not from here) so I could vote for Hillary out of spite. Bernie supporters are the WORST. Not only are they constantly beating you over the head about Bernie but WITHOUT FAIL, every single article that even mentions Hillary in passing has some Bernie supporter talking shit about her. Enough already.
I love Chastain but that interview is hard to get thru. Awful.
The series of tweets from Christopher McQuarrie were fantastic; who would have thought you could use twitter to tell a compelling story?
Jessica Chastain speaks about inequality in the film industry so much more thoughtfully and eloquently than most of her contemporaries. I wish more actors would follow her example.
Ugh, Civil War. The only DC/Marvel movie I want to see this year is Suicide Squad. I'm sure Civil War will get strong reviews and is super 'fun' and whatever, but I'm just so tired with Marvel flicks
@Derrek If there were more like you, she probably would have won in '08, because it was like that back then, too, with Obama supporters. Smh
Why did Eva Green never have the film career she was supposed to have post-Casino Royale? It's inexplicable.
