Jessica Chastain as Miss Sloane: A Story in Gifs

Jessica Chastain's upcoming movies have been shuffled around. The Zookeeper’s Wife - a WW2 drama directed by Niki Caro - will be released next March while Miss Sloane is coming this December. In the John Madden (Shakespeare in Love, The Debt) directed movie, Chastain is Elizabeth Sloane, a DC lobbyist battling for gun control legislation. It's a timely topic that we hope is handled with the care it deserves. The supporting cast includes Mark Strong, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Alison Pill, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jake Lacy, Sam Waterston and John Lithgow.

Good cast Jessica, are you excited? (A Gif story after the jump)

Hmmm is this an exciting announcement or will it become this year’s Truth (2015)? An interesting story with a marquee actress at the center that gets lost in the midst of awards season because no one cares enough to go out and see it. Even Jessica is not sure.

Can this movie get Chastain into the very competitive looking best actress race this year? Some have already been raved at Cannes (Ruth Negga), some are reprising their Tony winning performance (Viola Davis), some have overdue narratives that dwarf Chastain’s (Pfeiffer, Bening), some are starring in popular book adaptations (Emily Blunt) and then there is Emma Stone who everyone just fell in love with yesterday. Are you ready Jess?

But isn’t December too late to make an impact? Haven’t we learned anything from A Most Violent Year (2014)? Yes Jessica you should be concerned.

Awards aside, we would like to see Chastain give another great performance. She was totally lost in The Huntsman, didn’t get the tone and was serious when fun and campy was called for. Why didn’t you follow Blunt and Charlize Theron’s lead and chew some scenery? You weren’t hunting Bin Laden after all, it was a fantasy. We criticize because we love. Don't worry though, no one saw The Huntsman so you might have dodged that. Unless you care about box office.

What do you think of Chastain's chances this year?

I think it's a good time to release Miss Sloane. With all the chatter going on in our country over gun control, it's a great time to release the film. Hopefully, Chastain can make a return to Oscar and I also kind of want the movie to do well so that maybe Gugu Mbatha-Raw can be in the conversation for Best Supporting Actress. I think she should've been nominated for Belle.

Call me sentimental but I want La Pfeiffer to win this year. Rooting for Blunt and Bening nominations as well, granted they're good. Or not, whatever, it's the Oscars.

This year's best actress could become 4/5 The Help. 3 actresses from the film and one directed by its director.

I think the glow has dimmed on her in the past 2 years, poor projects and lack of a box office hit plus her lack of MOVIE STAR charisma.

Viola Davis is the biggest presumptive front-runner in this category since Streep in The Iron Lady. Unless for some strange reason Denzel Washington makes a lot of mistakes with the stage-to-screen translation (possible), it will be very hard to deny Davis this Oscar.

plus her lack of MOVIE STAR charisma

What you're saying is she's not a whore.

No not at all she does not have what Hanks,Pratt,Cruise,Ford has, what Sandra,Bette,Liz,Julia,Cmaeronhave.

Good actress not a film star.

Jess feels like an American Kidman to me. Delicate yet audacious. Intelligent yet vulnerable to the acceptance and approval of others. Once the right project connects for her and the consensus she'll become a big deal all over again.

I'm much more excited about this than Zookeeper's Wife, but much more concerned that if it fails to connect it fails big.

Interesting to see the pieces all falling into place for the season with this & The Founder shifting release. Time to get excited about the autumn festival reveals?

These projects sound so exciting. That Oscar snub of her wonderful work in A Most Violent Year still hurts. AND she should have won already for Zero Dark Thirty. Sigh.

July 14, 2016 | Unregistered Commenterbrookesboy

I doubt it,Oscar falls out of love very quickly and with Emma,Brie,Shailene,Kristen & Alicia leading the new leading lady charge she's probably heading for Connelly status.

I think Jessica will be fine. She's still the best younger actress in movies, and she knows how to balance the mainstream and the auteur. Finally got around to seeing Crimson Peak, and she was mind-blowingly good.

brookesboy

Did you see the same Crimson Peak I saw????

July 14, 2016 | Unregistered Commenterrick

the test screening reactions on her acting were great, but the less influential company may blow her chance. :/

July 15, 2016 | Unregistered Commenterava

rick, can you be more specific? Did you find something lacking in her performance?
