Marion Cotillard Wishes Her Haters "A Swift Recovery"
Marion Cotillard has had it with all the press attention she's getting in the Brangelina divorce. Who knows how the rumors about her and Brad started but Allied (opening this Thanksgiving) surely provided the easy optics. The movie stars are playing impossibly beautiful / sneaky deadly / possibly double crossing lovers in Allied (2016) and you could describe Mr & Mrs Smith (2005), the film that brought us Brangelina, in much the same way.
Cotillard released the following pointed statement, which reads like the equivalent of an eye roll crossed with a death glare. She wants you to know that she's perfectly happy with fellow French film star Guillaume Canet, her longtime partner, and also: she's pregnant again with their second child.
The statement in full and a bit more after the jump...
This is going to be my first and only reaction to the whirlwind news that broke 24 hours ago and that I was swept up into. I am not used to commenting on things like this nor taking them seriously but as this situation is spiraling and affecting people I love, I have to speak up.
Firstly, many years ago, I met the man of my life, father of our son and of the baby we are expecting. He is my love, my best friend, the only one that I need.
Secondly to those who have indicated that I am devastated, I am very well thank you. This crafted conversation isn't distressing. And to all the media and the haters who are quick to pass judgment, I sincerely wish you a swift recovery.
Finally, I do very much wish that Angelina and Brad, both whom I deeply respect, will find peace in this very tumultuous moment.
With all my love, Marion
This statement has an added benefit of alerting us that Marion actually has an official Instagram account that we didn't know about. She's not selfie-oriented but tends to take pictures of street art, rocks, animals, architecture, and the like. But here is a photo of her with the Allied script. She used it to mark her wrap on the project 4 months ago.

A class act, like I said.
I love her more now.
Ideally she should not have had to address the false rumours at all, but every word of this only makes me love and admire her even more! Her images on her account are great, showing the wonderful, positive world we live in, rather than the one that burns women at the stake for things they have never done!
Marion Cotillard can touch your soul and make you cry with her performances, such as in The Immigrant and La Vie en Rose. You can feel her anguish. That's a quality she shares with Sophia Loren.
Mic drop.
The woman is grace personified!
All the best to you, Madame Cotillard.
Lord, this is just crazy and it gets even more crazy as days passed by. I wonder what crazy chapter will be written tomorrow.
I really hated the easy implication that Marion was behind it all because I NEVER saw her as the messy type as she always came off as nothing but grace and class. This insta post (I immediately added her when I came across it) just proves it.
She should have added:
"P.S. 9/11 was an inside job."
@Sean C.
Gak!! Hilarious. But now I must clean my screen of the mouth full of chili I was eating!
A masterclass on how to shut down those nasty unfounded rumours.
I have always found her classy as an actress... this makes her even more classy as a human being. Good going, Marion!!!
I want to see her perform that monologue at the Oscars.
Elegant, classy, and graceful.
Even French people write statements now. I wouldn't have said a thing.
She's had it. Officially!
@ Peggy Sue:
With Allied coming out, better she respond now than on the press tour.
I just googled photos of Guillaume Canet, and I wouldn't drop him for Brad Pitt either. :-)
Nice, Marion. Now give Julie Christie her Oscar.
Whoever dragged Marion's good name into this bullshit should get their asses kicked immediately.
Quit it, brookesboy. ;-)
brookesboy, can we give Cotillard Lawrence's oscar?
Arkaan, I like it!
Am I the only person who found the statement a bit odd? While it is certainly implied, she never explicitly denies an affair with Pitt. If she is going to address the rumors at all, I'd think it wouldn't be too hard to include the obvious pull quote a la Clinton's "I. Did. Not. Have. Sex. With. That. Woman."
TJ -- I would never use Clinton as a good example for anything.
I like the statement. It says what it needs to say and pulls attention off of her. That said, yes, they had an affair.
