Tilda's Two Teasers: War Machine & Okja

Don't bother telling us that Tilda Swinton isn't the lead in these new Netflix movies! She's always a leading lady. Tilda approaches the mic in Okja AND War Machine. The rest is noise but for our worry that no movies with big stars will ever go theatrical again with Netflix around

War Machine premieres on May 26th and Okja premieres June 28th.

P.S. Is this a silver fox look on Brad Pitt or as blonde as Seven Years in Tibet (1997) or is this some mashup of the two?

Oh look, it's Asian actress Tilda Swinton acting as a white savior yet again!

bey -- oh dear. how on earth are you getting that from this trailer? I'd say the OKJA teaser looks like she's an evil scientist.

So are these not eligible for Oscars then w/o a theatrical screening first?

I wonder about their theatrical release plan (or lack of it) too.
It will be quite a shame if the gorgeousness of Bong Joon Ho's vision and Brad Pitt's everything don't get projected on big screen. Plus, awards chances.

They also have Will Smith movie due in December.

So these big stars are willing to settle for TV movie now? Eh...

I'm a bit tepid on both of these teasers but the talent in front and behind the camera abides. Snowpiercer was my least favorite of Bong's films and Okja seems closer in tone to that than his earlier Korean films. War Machine, meanwhile, feels like the kind of military industrial complex satire we've already seen several times in the last decade (the best version of which was Burn After Reading) but we'll see... Michôd has more than earned the benefit of the doubt.

I agree that these seem to mark the death knell of movie stars being in theatrical releases, unless those releases are superhero movies, cartoons, sequels including dinosaur movies, or the occasional high-concept star pairing (like The Intern or Passengers). At some point, won't everything be streaming unless it is an expensive special effects spectacular?

I'm all there for Okja, but I'm definitely getting "Men Who Stare at Goats" vibes from War Machine, which isn't a good thing.

I too got a Men Who Stare at Goats-vibe from War Machine, which most certainly isn't a good thing!
It also has a Our Brand Is Crisis-vibe, which isn't very good either!

Very disappointing, as I'm a huge David Michôd fan - I think The Rover is a masterpiece.

Tilda could TOTALLY win Leading Actress someday with like, fifteen minutes of screentime.

I think I've said this many times whether it's wuxia, Korean or other Asian movies...that part of the world is much bigger than Bong or Ang Lee or whatever marquee name that sits well with the Western world. There are MANY gems unknown to or undiscovered by their Hollywood counterparts.
