Tracking Board a female led "Kung Fu" reboot (though they're referring to it as more of a sequel to the 1970s series) is supposedly actually going to cast Asian stars in the main roles (if so it'll be the first network Asian drama for networks... though we've had Asian sitcoms and Asian leads on cable series, we haven't had a primarily Asian network drama ever. Can you believe it?)

Variety talks to This is Us creator about Jack's death on the show. I have to admit I have found the whole thing rather distasteful in the "mystery" slow reveal of it. I'm tired of TV shows using something as painful as death for something as cheap as "mystery" and "reveals" and such. (Otherwise I really love the show)

Variety an opinion column on the dark side of Hugh Hefner's sexual liberation and the Playboy legacy. I find these conversations fascinating but I do question why people aren't more willing to admit that these things ARE consensual. There's so much talk about how horrible it is for women but Playboy bunnies were not part of a sex slavery ring. They chose it... for money, for fame, for security, for whatever private reasons. It seems disingenuous to remove the question of complicity altogether from these conversations about the male gaze (though it does obviously make it easier to judge whoever is gazing). Speaking of consensually gazed upon...

She's used the announcement not to focus on herself but to advocate for universal healthcare (even though she's wealthy and has insurance). This is what you call heroism and leadership. Love her. Too bad our elected officials are neither heroes nor leaders.

i love JLD for a number of reasons, and this announcement just clinched it. i cannot think of a kinder, more humane way to make this announcement (celebrities are more or less forced to share diagnoses), bring attention to others who do not have the privileges that she has, and make it about something larger than her. breast cancer is a serious issue and all people deserve screenings and care because it can be successfully treated if caught early. all my best to her for a quick and easy recovery.

Some elected officials are heroes and leaders. It just seems like none of them are because the ones in the spotlight right now are so spineless or odious or selfish or uncaring or ignorant or blinded or shortsighted or all of the above.
Yay for using Asian Americans in film. But can we move away from martial arts, though. progress is so slow.

I know people read Playboy for the articles as it did have some interesting things but honestly, I found some of those articles to be boring and pretentious. I hated the critics they hired to do music and film reviews. They were terrible. I hated these articles about what was needed to woo women by giving into a lifestyle that was expensive and harmful in its consumption of alcohol and cigars. I don't drink. I don't smoke. I don't do drugs. I've never done those things cause I'm already fucked-up enough as it is as I'm on meds. Why do I need to take that shit to fuck me up even more?
I appreciate what Playboy and Hugh Hefner has done but let's be honest. The magazine in the past few years sucked. The airbrushing of the women was horrible and all of those lifestyle articles were shit.

I read that Hulu is picking up 30 Rock. With this and their Emmy wins, isn't it interesting that Hulu seems to be beating Netflix at their own game?
