T'weetweek, T'Challa!
a semi weekly collection for those w/ or w/out twitter curated by Nathaniel R
Why do straight people riot when their sport team wins? Like, when Julianne Moore won her Oscar all I did was have an extra mimosa.

After the jump little jewel tweets on Saoirse Ronan, ASL in film, Russell Crowe on his next film, and Jessica Chastain relating to Lady Bird. But first Black Panther...
Black Panther opens on February 16th but the first rush of press have already seen it (I'm going today!) and so for the first act of this past week's tweet collection, some of the most memorable reactions to it.
A gay man's guide to BLACK PANTHER: This movie has more shirtless wrestling than RIVERDALE and more tear-stained cheeks than a Julianne Moore clip reel

We edited our films across the hall from each other for 8 months. We talked in our edit bays, on walks around the lot. About our films, our dreams. Tonight, his comes true. On my way to the #BlackPanther premiere with a full heart for my fam, director extraordinaire #RyanCoogler! pic.twitter.com/lrxBNRsqeC

Like OMG I'm in tears from the beauty the music the score this is an EVENT. Go see #BlackPanther WHEN IT HITS THEATERS. I watched GROWN MEN go in tears.

Black Panther looks, feels and sounds unlike any Marvel film to date. A visual feast. Wakanda is amazingly realized, the antagonist actually has an arc with emotional motivations. Marvels most political movie. So good. #BlackPanther

Most encouraging things about the social media impressions just happen to be Marvel’s biggest shortcomings (for some) thus far:
— EDSN (@EdisonCaine) January 30, 2018
1. Strong Villain
2. Strong Female/POC presence
3. Cinematography
4. Memorable score
5. Not formulaic
Great news.#BlackPanther

and moving away from that fictional African country for other cultural commentary...
You know the mornings when you wake up and remember that you did a film with Nicole Kidman last year, and Joel Edgerton directed it and it stars Lucas Hedges and it’s called BOY ERASED... and you quietly smile to yourself because you know people are going to dig it ..?
Me too

it's been 31 years since my film #childrenofalessergod was nominated for an Oscar when a film with sign was nominated. With @SilentChildFilm @shapeofwater and @BabyDriverMovie there are 3 FILMS with sign nominated for @TheAcademy Awards this year #AcademyAwards2018 #SignLanguage

Félicité arrived in the mail the same day it missed an Oscar nom. So did Lav Diaz's film, which I hear landed in tenth place for Best Picture. pic.twitter.com/G2d22EaCm8

Please no more dead kid backstories in space movies, there are simpler reasons for making irrational decisions in space, I assure you (the food sucks, for example)

Basically #GretaGerwig made a film about my adolescence in Sacramento & ditching it for college in NY. The first time I watched @LadyBirdMovie I was so struck by our parallel lives that I had to watch it immeadiately again. Oh also, I lost my virginity to Dave Matthew's CRASH 🤤

Ava Duvernay’s comment is interesting since she rejected directing Black Panther, I wonder if they ever dicussed about that...
Lol at that humble brag by Crowe. Geez, way to make the rest of us feel bad...
Caroline Framke: Saoirse could really play Meryl, but I don't think she will break her record. However, what I'd like the most would be the two of them making a film together.
I agree that Saoirse won't break Meryl's record (it will be a long time before anyone does, maybe ever). But let's not forget Saoirse has her own record - fastest to three nominations!
Ava Duvernay’s comment is interesting since she rejected directing Black Panther, I wonder if they ever discussed it?
Marvel's stipulations were too restrictive for her. Also, the material was less like her personal artistic sensibilities. I have an uncomfortable feeling A Winkle In Time will be a commercial failure.
@Suzanne- I think Jennifer Lawrence holds this record. If she gets nominated for Mary Queen of Scots next year she might be first to reach four. Jennifer Lawrence currently holds that record too. I think Jennifer Jones is second place.
@3rtful,
I agree, I honestly don't think it looks great- Wrinkle In Time, but I am hoping for the best.
Nikki: /3rtful's not really saying that it looks like a bad movie, though, just that it looks too alienating to be a major hit. Not sure I necessarily agree it absolutely won't be financially successful (if The BFG (a Roald Dahl/Steven Spielberg match) can flop...anything can happen), but if it does, it should be viewed as a surprise.
Pro Football has plenty of gay fans and yes I do agree about the male eye candy in "Black Panther"
I deja vu'd Streep all over Vicky Krieps' performance in 'Phantom Thread'.
@suzanne Lawrence got 4 noms in 6 years. It took Ronan 10 years to get to 3 noms.
